About Carole

Bio

Hi, I have been subbing in Umatilla and Morrow Counties since 2000 and enjoy working with students of all ages. I especially love to work with students on math and reading and have an endorsement on my teaching license to teach English to people who want to learn English.

My preferred meeting place is at the Umatilla Public Library in Umatilla, Oregon. We have a pleasant study room there with a door that may be closed to keep noise down and windows to let in plenty of light.

Reading,

Reading

I have been reading since I was five years old and love to read. I have a master's degree in education and have tutored students in reading for kinder, first, second and third grade. Reading is a great joy which makes me very happy. I would like to share this with my students.
Spelling,

Spelling

I am an excellent speller. I believe that this is mostly due to the fact that I began to read at the early age of five and have continued to read avidly for the greater part of my life. Next, I studied Italian and lived in Italy where I spoke, read and typed Italian for five years. After that, I returned to the United States and studied Spanish for a couple of years. These sister languages support my comprehension of words based upon Latin roots. Finally, I have worked hard academically, completing an undergraduate degree in General Humanities, a master's degree in General Humanities with an emphasis on writing, and a master's degree in Education. I love reading the dictionary and can hardly look up a word because the garden of words tantalizes me so much. It saddens me to meet so many young people who do not enjoy reading, as it is one of the greatest joys on earth, an adventure of the heart and mind. Without a complete mastery of the human language, I believe it is not possible for one to reason, to use logic and to manage one's life.
