I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences in the summer of 2021. I majored in chemistry, where I ranked second in class of nearly 80 students and earned the Summa Cum Laude distinction. Sophomore year Organic Chemistry was where my passion for the sciences was instilled. My professor George Bandik, was experienced, approaching 40 years of teaching, charismatic, and more available to students than any teacher I had previously encountered. After earning an A in both his Organic I and Organic II classes, he offered me a peer tutoring position. Until my graduation, I held two, one hour tutoring sessions per week. This gave me a sense of pride, being able to connect with students, and helping them distill difficult problems down to manageable parts. Having had success at this, I offered to hold similar sessions for General Chemistry I and II students as well. Sessions were always well attended.
After graduating, Dr. Bandik offered me a position teaching Organic Chemistry laboratories for undergraduates. The class was comprised of two parts. I lecture portion one hour per week and a four hour lab meeting. Having broken into the world of teaching and tutoring gave me great confidence to apply for a position at The Ellis School nearby to the University of Pittsburgh. I taught chemistry, AP chemistry and Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science there for one year. Students in AP chemistry excelled, with 40% earning a 5 on the AP test. Three of the five Junior Academy of Science participants reached the state competitor at Penn State, with 2 earning first prize. While at Ellis, I also held positions as Assistant soccer and basketball coach.
Currently, I am employed at a High School in Connecticut, where I teach Algebra, Pre-Calc, Physics and Chemistry. I also coach mountain biking and basketball. I enjoy being around curious, motivated students. I look forward to working with you!
