Hi! My name is Stephen and teaching is what I love to do. I have over six years' experience tutoring and teaching students of all ages, and I'm always ready for a new assignment. I have done most of my work in the United States through the Huntington Learning Center, where I helped my students prepare for the SAT and ACT tests. My method is to teach not only the material on the tests, but also the test-taking process itself. I work with my students on time management, guessing strategies, and overcoming test anxiety. My goal is not for my students to reach 100% comprehension, but to improve their scores as much as possible before the date of their next test. I have scored above the 90th percentile on the ACT, SAT, and GRE, so I do know the material thoroughly myself, but the method of taking the test can make all the difference for a student looking for a few more points.

I also tutored math at that location, working on skills ranging from simple arithmetic through Geometry, Algebra II, and Trig. I am prepared to tutor any Calculus students as well. As opposed to standardized tests, in which the result is all-important - I believe comprehension and a consistent method of arriving at solutions should be stressed first, and that improved grades will follow. Unfortunately there is no short-cutting in math, as a solid foundation is always needed before advancing on. I learned this first hand while studying for two years of Calculus and beyond to get my Computer Science degree.

I am currently a Professor of ESL at Universidad Externado in Bogotá, Colombia, where I have been working since January of 2016. I began working in ESL in Chicago in 2010, and since then have worked and lived in Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. I received my CELTA certification - developed by Cambridge University - in August of 2015. I have experience helping beginning, intermediate, and advanced English speakers improve their grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. I'm also happy to do purely conversational classes. Top-Notch

Stephen is truly a top-notch tutor. He helped me prepare for a difficult Math test. I studied with a couple of tutors before and was not content until I found Stephen. He is very professional, patient and diligent. From the moment we began studying Math, Stephen had a plan of action worked out, gave me lots of homework, and at the start of each new lesson, he made sure I understood the previous material. Stephen went out of his way to ensure that I do good on the test, not only did he help me with Math but also provided valuable test taking skills and techniques. I appreciated the fact that Stephen would bring various practice tests similar to the one I was supposed to take. He put the effort to find these tests online on his own time. Also, Stephen timed me while I was working on these practice tests to see if I can finish within the time limit and then gave me important time management advise. Stephen was always on time and ready to work, which I greatly admired. Unlike other tutors that I have worked with, Stephen was really my mentor in the Math department. He gave me detailed instructions on what to do before the test day and on the test day. He was the only tutor I worked with that was able to really explain Math to me in plain and simple terms. Stephen went above and beyond the call of duty. I would recommend Stephen to anyone seeking help with Math, preparing for various tests or just brushing up on some Math skills. Thank you Stephen for all your help!

I have little time to write about this session, but Stephen is helping me with the GRE. From the first lesson I could gather he is extremely gifted in analyzing the problems associated with the GRE. I look forward to the next session and the homework assigned. He is patient, calm, and clear with explaining things.

Excellent Tutor!

Stephen, is an absolute delight to work with.! I hired him to work with my son on his Geometry homework and saw immediate improvements with his quiz scores. Because he did such an incredible job with helping my son, I also hired him to help me with my Statistics class. He truly connects with his students, and I would recommend anyone looking for a tutor who really knows their stuff as it pertains to Mathematics, to call on Stephen. A+ Superb!
