As a photographer with many years of experience and a BFA in Photography, I have a lot of knowledge to share with you or your child. Using my experience in teaching students of all ages, I will tutor you or your child in the art of creative photography. Dear Parents and Students,

As a photographer with many years of experience and a BFA in Photography, I have a lot of knowledge to share with you or your child. Using my experience in teaching students of all ages, I will tutor you or your child in the art of creative photography. I have worked with 6-8 grade students as a guest artist/photographer at our local middle school and 9th-grade high school students, enhancing their knowledge of digital art using Photoshop. I have lead children in a workshop where we have used the camera and computer to create a claymation art piece which was submitted to the Brooklyn Art Library. Sharing my knowledge of photography and Photoshop with adults has also been extremely rewarding.

My approach to tutoring photography is very hands on and begins with the basic functions on how the camera creates an image. Once you or your child has the basic grasp of the function of the machine, then I will start to teach you how to see through the lens. Lessons will include the topics of composition, exposure, and lighting. We will start by going out into nature to learn these elements of photography and, as you progress, then going to studio photography techniques and the use of the speed light flash system will open more doors. I will introduce you to all aspects of photography including landscape, portraiture, and still-life. In addition to creating the image in the camera, I will also teach you how to edit and enhance your digital imagery on the computer using the PhotoShop program. By the end of the lessons you or your child will not only be proficient in most aspects of photography but will also have enough finished work to build a wonderful portfolio. You can go as far as your desire to learn takes you.

Although I learned photography the old fashion way by using film and a darkroom, I now use Photoshop to edit and enhance all my digital images. Since I work as a professional photographer it is imperative that I use this program to present imagery that merits payment. I can instruct on all aspects of taking a simple image and making it better to creating a brand new image from nothing but pieces of other pictures. There are many filters and tools in Photoshop that I can show a student how to use to create beautiful photography no matter what that photograph is for.

I began my photography career by first learning the art of drawing and painting. I attended The North Carolina School of the Arts and ended my Education with a Degree from Parsons School of Design in NYC. By learning how to use composition, perspective and design with other media such as pencil, color pencil, charcoal, paint, pen & ink and pastels I was able to translate that into photography. I am able to give concise and objective critique to help growing artists to improve their skills. With 19 years of experience in these areas of art I am qualified to tutor students in these areas. I can help students build a portfolio that will help them gain access to art schools of higher learning that require a portfolio for review.

Although my art career ended in photography my journey took me through painting and drawing. By attending art school and college I learned many techniques in the use of paint media. I have used all types of paint including watercolor, acrylics, and oil. Not only can I instruct in the use of each type of paint, I can also instruct in the use of composition, color and perspective. In addition, I instruct on what types of paper or canvas best suit each media. For the advanced student the art of using mixed media can become integrated in these lessons.

I currently work in major New Jersey hospitals as a newborn photographer, as well as run my own photography business. I photograph portraits, parties, weddings and events. I know the fundamentals of all aspects of photography as well as the advanced levels of creating photographic imagery.

Just What I Needed!

I needed to learn a specific way to photograph the oral cavity for my profession. I called Nicole. She arrived on time and got right to work examining my camera to find out what would work for me. Within two hours, I was able to photograph what I needed for my profession. She is very knowledgeable about photography. Great!

Great experience for my daughter

Nicole arrived and I noticed right away she was very nice and also had the right personality to teach my young teenage daughter. She went over the general basics of photography while making sure my daughter was with her every step of the way. After learning the basics they went outside to take pictures and after that in the second hour they worked on photoshop. My daughter absorbed it all and has been taking fun photos since last week. This was a great experience for us and I would highly recommend Nicole as a tutor.

Patient, thorough and engaging tutor!!

My daughter spent two hours with Nicole getting a complete tour of her DSLR. She has banished the "green setting" (automatic) forever. They covered all of the important basics of old school photography updated for the digital age. The next lesson will cover working with images out of the camera and then on to more advanced techniques. My daughter keeps her camera nearby and I can see the creative wheels turning when it's in her hands. She's not just clicking away, but thinking about her subject, focus, exposure, etc.
