Take advantage of my expertise, but without the Expertise Effect!

(Expertise Effect: where teachers experienced in a subject forget what it is like to encounter the material for the first time)

-- I have organized and taught introductory physics in many classes (both with and without calculus),
-- I have thorough experience with all introductory subjects, so I am VERY comfortable presenting this information in a class, or class-like, format (perfect for review or preparation for ANY AP Exam and the SAT II Physics Exam)
-- I have honed and developed (from the many questions I have been asked by students over the years) the best ways to make even tricky physics topics easier to grasp, and make problems easier to solve.
-- AND I remember what it was like to see physics for the first time

This is much more than can come from just taking courses or coming back to teaching physics after doing something else.

I have CURRENT college teaching experience at Southern New Hampshire University. I also have taught recently at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts and Daniel Webster College in New Hampshire.

I work at all levels of fundamental physics: AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C, IB Physics, Honors Physics, SAT Physics, Conceptual Physics, General Physics I, General Physics II, and Modern Physics.

My goal in tutoring, that I think will help students most, is giving what I call a "visceral" understanding of the material. A lot of tutors can understand how to use equations and what the variables in them refer to; but that leads more to an "intellectual" understanding. I want to give an understanding that you can "grab hold of," something that lets you know what that quantity or principle means. I do this through pictures and discussion of the history of physics, when helpful, to give context to the equations.

I particularly enjoy giving "handles" to some of the trickier concepts in physics. What *is* moment of inertia? What *is* electric potential, and why is it used? What *is* flux, and

Excellent tutor

As the mom of the tutee, I knows things were going well based on how many ‘oh’s I heard during the session. So I wasn’t surprised when afterwards my daughter kept saying how helpful the session had been and how Steven was very patient and super clear.

Helpful, knowledgeable, sensitive to the individual needs of my son

Steven W started tutoring our son last week. This is his first physics class. My son is a little shy and will not ask for help unless he is comfortable. My son has expressed only positive things about Steven W.

Clear and concise

Steven is very patient and understanding. I am being tutored weekly in Physics II and understanding the material well now. I got a 92% in my first exam. Steven has incredible knowledge.

Great tutor!

Very patient and moved at my pace throughout the session. I felt comfortable asking him questions and now I feel a lot more confident for my physics exam.

Great start of the lessons

Great start to the lesson by explaining why he needs the formulas. This helps my son put it more into context. Also the way of explaining fits better then his school teacher.

Steven is both professional and knowledgable.

He is helping my son with Physics AP with both concepts and math problems. I would highly recommend Steven. We look forward to continue to work with him to assist my son.

Great first meeting

This was my son's first meeting with Steve. Steve taught my son AP Physics, which is not easy subject. My son said he wants to continue taking tutoring sessions with Steve.
