Hi, I'm Avery. I graduated from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. I started my college career in the 5 year BA/MAT program for Adolescent Education with a concentration in Chemistry. During that time I completed the DASA, Child Abuse Identification, and School Violence Intervention and Prevention workshops. While I have always wanted to be an educator since I was a merit badge counselor at my Boy Scout camp. I decided in my last semester to change course a little and focus solely on my degree in Chemistry. Other than education my passions include hot sauce and combatting the effects of the war on drugs in my community through education. I am also an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and the BLM movement.
I have not spent time teaching however during my college studies I spent time studying the behaviors of teachers and how the students responded. I have spent a lot of time tutoring students of all ages from middle school to college, however much of it was unpaid volunteer time. Even now on a daily basis, I spend time helping my college friends with their courses from General Chemistry to Calculus I to General Physics. I love seeing the light turn on in a student's brain when they can figure out the problem themselves and manipulate or replicate the method to solve the other problems. I have a passion for teaching and although I want to focus on chemistry research, I want to still be able to give back to the next generation of citizens.

I have studied math at the college level up to Calculus II and Applied Mathematics I, and I applied those skills in every single one of my Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Geology courses. I have also spent time volunteering to tutor Algebra for my high school. In the 2016-2017 school year I consistently held open tutor sessions two days a week after school for anyone who needed help. Each session I hosted an average range of 2-5 students to work on Algebra and the Regents test or SUNY final test preparation.
