Hello! My name is Courtney and I am from Tennessee. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in professional writing in December 2022. I studied creative writing at the beginning of my university journey, and then later on switched to a different school where they offered professional writing! I got on the Dean's list every single semester at the University of Memphis. And I had a great, memorable relationship with all my professors and classmates. My favorite part of university was joining the writing, rhetoric, and technical communication club.
I received my TEFL certification (teaching English as a foreign language) so that I could be better prepared to teach. Since 2020, I have been teaching English as a second language online. At my first teaching job, I taught young learners from China. At my current job, I teach English to adults in Japan. I also do volunteer work as a transcriptionist for the Smithsonian Institution, and I record audiobooks that are public domain and free to listen to.
I prefer to teach students using kindness and patience because I believe that is how people learn the best. And that's how I like to treat students, as human beings that deserve equal respect. I understand that some students have problems in school, and it is my duty to treat students like they are not a problem. But rather they are just struggling, either emotionally or intellectually. Either way, it is my goal to change the students' future in a positive way. I use a lot of expressive language and movements because I want to make sure that my students feel comfortable and open up as much as they possibly can! I try my best to make my classes engaging and interesting depending on exactly what my student needs. :-)
