Hello and thank you for visiting my page!

I am a current 4th grade reading and phonics teacher in Frederick, MD. I specialize in The Science of Reading which focuses on fluent word reading X language comprehension = reading comprehension. I achieve this by teaching my students how to decode words, teach spelling and grammar patterns and encourage students to tap into their background knowledge to make sense of what they are reading.

I love working with children who are struggling to read and working with them "where they are" - their current reading level, not grade level. I believe this builds their confidence and gives them a positive outlook that they may not of had before in regards to reading. I use humor and your child's interests to engage and motivate them to want to read.

Prior to my current teaching assignment, I taught 1st grade for 9 years at Twin Ridge Elementary in Mt. Airy, MD.

I graduated from Frostburg State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and hold a Master's in Instruction and Curriculum for McDaniel College. I have also worked hard to take 36 education credits to keep current on teaching techniques beyond my master's degree.

Teaching is my passion and helping students develop a love for reading is my goal!

I am flexible with time. While I do have a 3 hour cancellation policy, I do allow for makeups. I teach part time from 9am to 12:30 pm. So I am available to tutor from 1:00 pm into evening hours.
