About Matt

Bio

I’m Matt! I graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree in secondary education social studies. I also received my Master’s degree in educational leadership. I have been a teacher and coach for 25 years and enjoy the process of serving and helping others. As an educator, I know that all human beings can learn if provided with the appropriate learning opportunities. I love providing information that taps creative thought and critical thinking skills by employing a variety of teaching methods....

I’m Matt! I graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree in secondary education social studies. I also received my Master’s degree in educational leadership. I have been a teacher and coach for 25 years and enjoy the process of serving and helping others. As an educator, I know that all human beings can learn if provided with the appropriate learning opportunities. I love providing information that taps creative thought and critical thinking skills by employing a variety of teaching methods. After teaching content, I will give students time to process and practice the material.

I have been helping students in one on one settings for all 25 years of my career. I have worked with students on homework assignments and test preparation before school, during lunch periods, and/or after school. I also have experience helping students in small groups who have IEP’s, ESL, etc. I believe these experiences and my background will help me meet the needs of all students,

Lastly, I want to help the students I interact with as much as possible. As your tutor, I promise to provide best practices in education, be open to suggestions, and make myself available.

I would love the opportunity to work with you in a tutoring setting. I am highly qualified being a middle school and currently a high school social studies teacher and athletic coach. My teaching schedule has always consisted of 2-3 periods of United States History. In my classroom, I have taught subjects ranging from the Constitutional Convention to the Great Depression to the War on Terrorism. A glance into my classroom would be one of high student engagement focusing on critical thinking and creative connections. I employ many teaching methods in order to tap all students' learning styles such as: short presentations, reflections, visual and video clip analysis, simulations, primary source documents, etc. I have been tutoring students my entire teaching career working 1 to 1 and in group settings serving all students who need extra help.

I was a 3-sport athlete in high school. I played baseball as a lead off hitter and outfielder. After high school, I went on to college to play 4 years of collegiate athletics. After college, I became a high school teacher and participated in the development of young people every day of my life.

I have been a strength and conditioning coach for 25 years. The primary role in this position is teaching and programming. I have helped athletes learn through studying proper strength training, speed development, flexibility and mobility, suggesting the proper amount of rest, and nutritional guidelines. Over the years, I have professionally developed taking courses and earning certifications in speed training, weight training, nutrition, etc.. from Athletes Acceleration.

I played 4 years of football at the collegiate level. After graduating college, I became a high school teacher and coach. For the last 25 years, I have coached a number of athletes at various offensive positions such as: wide- receiver, running backs, fullbacks, H- backs, and tight ends. I have been part of 3 programs over the course of my career due to family circumstances. I have been part of 11 playoff teams, coached 10 division 1 athletes, and received Assistant Coach of Year for Division III. I have also coached strength and conditioning, speed and agility, and special teams play (schemes and position players).
