Writer's block keeping you from finishing your college application essay? Overwhelmed by grad school applications? Always wanted to play an instrument or learn music theory, but don't know where to start? Take a deep breath, and send me a message! I would love to work with you to overcome these obstacles and reach your goals.

My name is Samantha, and I am an educator, writer, and harpist living in North Carolina. I earned a BA in Music from an elite liberal arts college in Minnesota, where graduated with highest honors and won campus-wide awards in both writing and music. I also hold an MA in Musicology from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. For 6 years, I taught, tutored, and advised students at UNC-Chapel Hill in topics ranging from music history to graduate school admissions. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, I saw how students of all ages struggled with the transition to remote learning, and I began tutoring privately to help meet the need for personalized, one-on-one support.

Writing coaching is my specialty. Most of the classes I've taught involved a substantial written component, so I have lots of experience guiding students through the writing process! I also volunteered with a program dedicated to helping students navigate the grad school admissions process, from taking the GRE to writing successful personal statements. Regardless of subject area, my teaching style is enthusiastic, student-centered, and compassionate.

While much of my experience has been with college students, I am also available to work with high school students, middle schoolers, adult learners, and highly-motivated elementary students. My areas of expertise include: college/grad school application essays, academic and creative writing, harp performance, music theory, American and European history, global education (including Fulbright), and general study skills.

I can't wait to meet you! Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

An able guide for writing

Samantha was amazing! Invaluable! My daughter was in desperate need for adding more personal content and pulling together some loose strings for her college essay. She was struggling. In one session, Samantha guided her in making the needed changes. She asked my daughter key questions, that allowed my daughter to edit her piece, and feel ownership over it. We are both so happy with her essay and SO happy we found Samantha! She is intelligent, kind, and is able to get the job done! I highly recommend her!

Great Tutor

Samantha is currently helping me with my personal statements for my applications to graduate programs. She's helped me figure out what topics to focus on, come up with more information on those topics, and really get the "creative juices" flowing. I have an appointment with her next weekend to trim up what I've written so far. She's easy to understand, and very friendly!
