I have 12 years of experience teaching English, and my specialty is Exceptional Student Education with a focus on reading intervention. I recently taught high school English, and I have taught dual-enrollment, composition classes as well. Before that, I was a middle school English teacher. I have tutored several students outside of school; my clients range in age from 3rd grade to 9th grade. Some have specific learning disabilities while others are gifted. It is my desire to leave the classroom and tutor full-time because no learning experience is as meaningful as the 1:1 ratio tutoring provides.

I found my calling when I was asked to move from a co-teaching position to a full-time reading coach. I felt panicked and under qualified, and I immediately petitioned for more training. My administration responded; I was trained in the Wilson Reading System which provides phonics-based instruction in a structured, systematic way. Because Wilson does not address the needs of dyslexic and otherwise learning-disabled students, I became a tireless advocate always seeking ways to deliver content in an understandable manner that enables students to acquire skills regardless of ability. I found this approach successful and have been able to teach functionally illiterate 7th and 8th graders how to read chapter books of their choosing independently. My approach was so successful that I was asked to train my county's elementary school teachers in a 2-day seminar and then oversee implementation of the system the subsequent year.

Struggling students face the very real danger of internalizing failure, and without targeted intervention, they will give up on themselves and school. Watching the transformation in my students as they morphed from low self-esteem pupils to confident, eager readers was a profound experience. I've reached the point in my career that no other job matters as much as teaching people how to read.

I majored in creative writing with honors at FSU with a minor in psychology. I have a Masters in Tea

I have a Master’s degree and am licensed in English grades 6-12 and k-12 exceptional child education. I most recently served as Education Director for a homeschool tutoring service serving students of all abilities. I managed a team of 4 and taught 10 homeschooled students. Our academic subjects included English, Math, History, and Science.

Phonics

I have been trained in the Wilson Reading System (a phonics-based, systematic form of instruction) and have been using it to help functionally illiterate students learn to decode an encode since 2012. In Georgia, I was a resource teacher tasked with teaching 6th - 8th grade students how to read. My school was Title I, and many students did not know the alphabet. They hailed from families mired in generational poverty and illiteracy. Wilson works; at the end of two years, my students were reading chapter books. It was the most profound experience I have ever had; one of my students even borrowed material so he could teach his own father to read.

Mrs. Edith is a life saver!

Mrs. Edith helped me write an APA paper for my nursing class. She helped me with grammar, semantics, and reaching the appropriate wordcount. She gives very thorough feedback and is very professional and kind. Definitely going to hire her again for my next paper!

Life Saver who is patient & talented

Edith has been working with my son who has ADHD & reading comprehension issues. Its been a challenge to find someone that makes learning fun for my son, but Edith has done just that. He has hated every tutor before, but likes Edith & her style. She has worked with him on reading comp strategies and using tools to comprehend more of the material. Additionally, she helps him with specific projects in class to not become overwhelmed but to segment & tackle it head on. But honestly the top quality Edith has is in rebuilding self confidence in learning. She has been a blessing.

Live Savior!

This woman has been a life savior for our family! My son is ADHD and has a heavy case of OCD. He struggles in school and we've been trying to get him help through the school for years. This woman has made a huge difference in his life. He is starting to show great signs of improvement in reading and his whole attitude towards the subject is changing. Edith makes each lesson fun and doesn't get put off by his occasional outbursts. Not only that, she (on her own time) attends meetings at the school for him and is a great advocate for him. We couldn't have received the accommodations we currently have if it wasn't for her. If you are looking for a tutor for your child, definitely check her out.
