I took the math proficiency test and passed it and have been teaching both Special Education and Mathematics at my job as a high school teacher for 12 years. If you can get materials early to me then I can look at them ahead and figure out best way to teach the curriculum to your child in a way that they can understand and improve performance. It is very rewarding to have students improve their math performance if I have worked with them to achieve their goals.

Study Skills,

Study Skills

Study Skills is a broad term in my opinion that can be broken down into many areas. First of all is assessment. How do you go about taking a test and even before that what do you study and for how long? It is important for students to understand that when taking a multiple choice test it is advantageous to not necessarily do every question in order. Organization is a critical component of study skills. What information is important to the class and what should you remember for the tests or quizzes. These skills if learned correctly by students can really help them become more confident in their abilities. When that happens then the grades will improve.
Elementary Math

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is key to having success in 8th grade or into high school. It is very systematic and involves sequential steps in order to solve equations. Slope, intercepts, functions, graphing, manipulating equations, and other skills are what makes the subject very interesting. There are several tricks that can help remember esp. when dealing with slope. I have learned a lot of the tricks and they seem to work!
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra focuses on solving basic one and two-step equations. Problem Solving skills are addressed in this course. Figuring out ratios and solving proportions are a key to being able to set up equations and then solve them. Learning the basic units of measurement and how to manipulate them using the English and Metric system are critical to succeeding in Algebra. This skill is critical to learn at the Pre-Algebra and will help throughout math classes as well as in Chemistry.

ACT Math,

ACT Math

Being that the ACT is a timed test it is one that you really need to know what type of questions will be on the test. How much time is allotted for each section. What is the pace that the student should allow for each question. These are important questions that I can answer as well as the numerous resources out there to practice in order to have success on the test.

ADHD

I worked as a Special Education teacher for 10 + years and have worked with ADD and ADHD students. The key to working with these kids is to see how long they can sustain attention and teach in those moments. If it is a short time then lots of breaks need to be taken. Exercise and fidgets also can help aid in getting attention back again.
