Hi there, I’m Adam! I graduated with a Master’s in Early Music and a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Theory. During my studies, I came to appreciate my professors that made coursework unique, enjoyable, and personalized to the students. It paid off in dividends, as well; I felt more confident performing concerts on stage or analyzing music for my own understanding because these teachers had taken the extra time to breakdown complicated subjects into simple parts. This is a major teaching philosophy I have taken with me and try to bring into all of my teaching, and nothing makes me happier than that “aha!” moment on a student’s face when they understand a difficult concept and master its use. I make sure that I go over materials and schedules with each of my students that are accessible for them, and then introduce new concepts in a practical way that relates to pieces or genres they enjoy most.

I have two years of personal tutoring experience when I was hired by my graduate school, the Longy School of Music, to tutor and work with undergraduate students for music theory and ear training, as well as basic piano skills. I worked with students one-on-one to make sure that they were able to hear and understand complicated musical topics by ear and were able to improvise and apply musical patterns to improve their playing. In addition to this, I have taught flute for a small number of students privately over the years, and coached beginning baroque flute players in masterclass settings and private lessons.

I want my students to understand that they can really drive their learning with me, and that I appreciate and encourage my students to use music they are passionate about to learn all about new concepts for the future. I love to get feedback from my students and continuously improve my own teaching, and am always easy to reach for questions and suggestions! Feel free to get in touch and schedule a lesson!

Ear Training

While pursuing my Master's Degree, I was a Teaching Assistant for the school's Music Theory department and tutored Undergraduate students in Ear Training. My undergraduate degree is in Music Theory. I took and passed all of my school's Ear Training courses, including additional Ear Training Pedagogy courses. I have worked with students using both fixed-Do and movable-Do systems of ear training and sight singing.
