Hello students! Here is what I have to offer:

1) My teaching approach and philosophy

Teaching Mathematics + helping students succeed has always been one of passions. That is why I have been doing it for over 20 years. I enjoy the process of figuring out what is causing a student to struggle and offering them the tools to overcome those difficulties. Nothing is more satisfying to me than the "a-ha moment." So whether you need help preparing for a particular test or continuous assistance throughout the semester, I would love to be the one to help you get there and really understand the Math or Physics principles you need to solve the problems. I am always very patient and friendly, simply because I love what I do.

2) My experience

I hold a BS in electrical engineering (with concentration in Math) from the University of Kansas and a MS in Optics from the University of Rochester, in NY. Throughout my professional career as an engineer and scientist I have developed a number of very complex mathematical models (mostly using a tool called MATLAB) to address large, real industry technical problems. I have also taught Optics and Math full-time at a community college (Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY) and I have been tutoring others in Math, Physics and Portuguese (my native language) for over 20 years. My students have ranged from middle-school kids all the way to graduate students, which has helped me develop a number of teaching techniques appropriate for the diverse age groups with whom I have worked.

In closing, know that our sessions will feel like a conversation to you and, I believe, you will gain quite a bit from my relaxed teaching style, my experience and my passion for education. Let's get to work!

Sincerely,
Marcelo.

Very patient and Great Tutor

Marcelo has been a great inspiration for me in the world of calculus. I have always been a pretty good student in math, but found myself struggling with calculus this year. I have had 2 solid sessions with Marcelo which has enabled me to complete homework assignments with ease. Marcelo is a very patient and knowledgeable tutor. Throughout my studies, I have had 3 great math teachers. Marcelo ranks #1 in this category which has prompted me to refer him to my relatives and friends. Marcelo you Rock!

Tutor responded:

Wow! Thank you, Adrianna! You are a great student and I am very happy to be able to help you. Keep up the good work! Calculus is pretty cool, isn't it?

Very patient

Marcelo is an excellent tutor, my daughter understood the concept once Marcelo broke down a problem and will give a real life examples to associate with each problem. She really feel confident now so she can tackle the problems and passed her quiz.

Arndrea, 3 lessons with Marcelo
Tutor responded:

Thank you! It was a pleasure to work with your daughter and I feel confident that she will do really well.

Marcelo is a Great Tutor

Marcelo is doing an excellent job in pulling my daughter out of a situation where she was failing Physics Honors. Normally an exemplary student, my daughter was failing this course and it was putting her college acceptance at risk. Marcelo has a strong skill set, and is a very well prepared and experienced tutor. I wholeheartedly endorse him as a tutor for any student in S Florida and am so glad I engaged him to tutor my daughter.

Tutor responded:

Thank you for your words, Joseph. They mean a lot to me and so does your daughter's success.

Great tutor.

The tutor is timely. He is informed and imparts this information with thoroughness. He is pleasant and seems to be preparing my son well for the GRE exam. He formats the appointments to focus on those areas identified as problematic through assignments between sessions. He also systematically reviews each area covered in the GRE. My son's skills are improving.

Tutor responded:

I really appreciate your words and I am very pleased to hear that your son feels good about his progress. I am happy with the work that we are developing as well.

Good Tutor

Good Tutor to work with. Was helpful with physics. We will use Marcelo again. Marcelo was always on time for the classes.
