In my tutoring of students ages 5 through adult who have difficulties with phonics and decoding, and who may have dyslexia or characteristics of dyslexia, I primarily use the Orton-Gillingham based Barton Reading & Spelling Program. I regularly see tremendous growth in my Barton students; it is not uncommon for them to progress from below grade level readers to on (or above) grade level within a year's time. For deaf and hard of hearing students, including those who use ASL or an English signing system, I provide specialized tutoring in language development, reading, and writing skills. I am fluent in ASL and love finding ways to adapt the reading programs I've described above to the needs and abilities of my D/HH students. In addition to these, I use programs which target deaf and hard of hearing learners specifically (Bedrock, Fairview, etc.). I work with d/Deaf college students who attend Gallaudet University and who seek to improve their vocabulary, reading comprehension, English grammar, and essay-writing skills. I also enjoy working with students of all ages who are learning ASL and who are looking for additional practice with the language.
