Hello! My name is Max, and I am a very experienced math tutor looking to help anybody who seems to be running into a mental wall against math. Mathematics can seem to be a very complex field of study and very overwhelming at times, but I'm here to help. It is important to try many different teaching styles, and I will find the right style that fits you. We can tackle math one problem at a time to build a solid foundation of knowledge. It's important to build a solid base of knowledge because all math builds on previous information, and if one concept is not grasped, it will continually appear and prevent further understanding of additional topics. I have been tutoring math students for over 15 years, initially starting with helping friends with homework and progressing to paid tutoring of fellow students. Here are some recent highlights of my previous math education work experiences:

From 2015-2019, I lived in Dallas, Texas and I worked for 5 years for Edmentum, an E-learning company. I wrote math and science curriculum that is used in all 50 states, mainly through Common Core. In my final year with Edmentum, I was promoted to be a Senior Mathematics Curriculum Developer.

From 2020-2021, I worked as a Senior Instructor and Curriculum Manager for Principia Tutors in Northern Virginia. I tutored students of all ages, primarily focused on accelerated math paths for advanced middle school and high school students. Then, from 2022 through the summer of 2023, I was promoted to the Director of Math and Science as well as the TJ Director, a program to prepare students for the essay admittance exams to get into Thomas Jefferson High School, one of the top high schools in the entire United States.

In August of 2023, I moved back to my hometown of Pittsburgh to be closer to family, and I look forward to working with students in this area during the upcoming school year!

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have taught two different sections of Algebra 2 during the 2012 school year. I worked with students from all backgrounds to help them with all topics, from solving basic equations to polynomials and quadratics. With all math classes, especially Algebra 2, I try to show students multiple problem solving methods so that they can find the method that best suits them. Whether it's graphing, using specific formulas, or using mental math, students should have the opportunity to find the method that works best for them.

I taught a specialized ACT Math preparation course in Colorado at an at-risk high school during spring of the 2013 school year. I have extensive knowledge of not only the topics covered on the exam, but also specific test taking skills for the ACT. With a tight window of needing to answer one question per minute to finish the exam, students must learn how to read the questions and take shortcuts to solve long, tricky problems.

Flexible and knowledgeable

Max is fast enough to keep up when I race through material I’m already familiar with, but patient enough to walk me through parts I get stuck on. Very skilled in mathematics, knows a lot of tricks that are easier to remember than the “long form” solutions on my math lab. Also very insightful and good at explaining the relationships and concepts behind all the math. Knows how to “make it simple” - the textbooks make it hard! Would absolutely recommend.

Max A: the Goat

I do not believe in miracles. However, if they do exist, I am pretty sure they exist in the form of a man named, Max. I was never able to do remotely well on a calc exam and have been working with Max since my last mid term, on which I got a 65%. Since I began working with him about a month or so ago, I was able to improve my exam grade to a 95%, something I really did not think I was capable of. I could not have done it without Max and highly recommend him to anyone that may be struggling in their math courses. I promise you that you will leave any session with Max with a far greater understanding of whatever it is you are working on.

Very smart and beyond helpful tutor

I met with Max at the beginning of the semester in my Calculus 2 class and I was incredibly impressed with how smart he was by the end of our first lesson. Not only was he very knowledgable, but he was as good as one could hope for at explaining and conveying concepts. If you don't understand something, he is more than capable of helping you learn it. He is very passionate about math and can even explain how the different concepts you're learning can apply to the real world. I had around 15 lessons with Max and enjoyed every one of them. Not only was he a tutor, but he became a friend as well. I was struggling with Calculus 2 at the start of the semester, and I'm going to get an A in the class. I highly recommend Max to anyone who comes across his profile. He will be the best tutor you could possibly find.

Relaxed and knowledgeable tutor

Max is really encouraging and meets you where you are. I’m getting extra help from him for the last month before I take the GRE. He shows you both the long way and the shortcut for solving problems, and I really think his help will teach me how to think differently about the quantitative section!

Calculus Help

Max did an amazing job breaking down the beginning basics of Calculus. His teaching methods are very effective which enabled a Calculus student to go from confused and frustrated to confident and have a positive outlook of Calculus. Thanks Max!

Knowledgeable and adaptable

He is incredibly well versed in everything GRE. He was able to give me a concise run down in the things I needed a refresher in and helped me focus on the things that have weight.

Knowledgeable Tutor

Max really helped calm my math related fears and broke problems down for me so that I could really see what the question was asking. His confidence in my abilities made me feel at ease and much more positive about conquering the quantitative section on the GRE!

First lesson

Great first lesson. My daughter was against the idea of a tutor and Max did a great job breaking the ice and earning her trust. Looking forward to her next lesson.

Awesome!

We have been using a different tutor and for whatever reason my daughter's grades in AP Calculus continued to slip. After even just one tutor session with Max she got 100! She continues to improve and really likes Max.

Extremely helpful and easy going tutor.

I would have never gotten an A in my Calculus 2 class without Max. Not only is he extremely helpful and patient, but he empowered me with the confidence I needed to get through the course. After each lesson with him I felt significantly less stressed about the subject, and my grade in the class clearly reflects his effectiveness as a tutor. Math is one of my weakest subjects, and Calculus 2 is probably the last math class I will ever take, but part of me wishes I was taking more math so I could continue working with Max. I would highly recommend him to anyone struggling with any level of math.
