I have lived in Fauquier County most of my life, and taught at Fauquier High School for 24 years. I have always enjoyed helping students increase their confidence and master material they may be finding difficult. I believe learning should be interesting and fun rather than frustrating and difficult! Finding ways to help students understand new concepts and be able to apply them in different situations has been a rewarding part of my life for decades, and now that I am retired from public school teaching, I want to continue that tradition.
I also have over three years of experience in home-schooling my son, so I am familiar with the particular challenges that go with the home-schooling experience--both for parents and students. I have discovered ways to ensure my own son's success even in subjects he finds challenging, and I can offer that experience to other home-schooled students, as well. I look forward to helping students see their education as a positive part of their lives, and not something to be feared or dreaded. Education is about so much more than just memorizing facts and figures! It is one of the main building blocks that helps to create good citizens and lifelong success!

As a student myself, I was always good at math. I enjoyed figuring out multiple ways to solve math problems and still arrive at the correct answer, and I have found that my ability to explain concepts from more than one angle helps students who may find the textbook's explanation (or the teacher's explanation) insufficient for them to grasp those concepts. And Algebra is not nearly as scary as many people assume it to be!

I have always enjoyed reading and writing, and won a writing competition in college because of the strong background in writing I received in my own high school education. Grammar and punctuation, spelling, vocabulary building, the writing process, and writing research papers are things I have extensive experience with, and can help students improve their performance in any of these areas.
