About Bridgette

Bio

I've always been drawn to sharing my love of learning with others. I began tutoring in high school and I’ve been working full time as an English tutor since 2015. I double majored in English and Psychology at Clark University, where I graduated summa cum laude in 2013. Since then I’ve worked on hundreds of student papers, particularly in English literature, lit theory, psychology, sociology, research methods, cultural studies, education, poetry, and comparative lit.

Stuck or Just Starting:
Many times when a client is stuck on a writing assignment, I find that they need only to stop writing and start talking to get their ideas flowing again. One of my favorite parts of being a tutor is taking dictation. It’s always satisfying for me to turn a dead end around by simply asking a few questions and typing my student’s answers as they’re speaking. More often than not, a few minutes of conversation produces an outline or rough draft that disperses all feelings of hopelessness with minimal effort.

For general editing and organization, I like to use google docs or a similar program with students so we can both view and edit the piece at the same time. I’m comfortable citing in both MLA and APA format and I have experience assisting with database research and literature reviews, as well as designing & organizing psychological research. I particularly enjoy literary analysis and I’m happy to assist students with works of any length whether it be for an introductory class or graduate work, from renaissance studies to contemporary literature.

Some of the areas I typically help students with during a lesson include:

Organization & Clarity:
• Establishing a clear thesis with relevant support
• Using transition words & phrases to link paragraphs and ideas
• Supporting claims with close analysis, secondary evidence, and logical reasoning
• Identifying wordy or unclear areas & addressing them with clear, concise language
• Rearranging sentences, paragraphs, or paper segments for better flow
• Correcting informal or imprecise w

Superb Tutor-

Bridgette is one of the best tutors I have ever encountered and have recommended her to a number of relatives and friends who have all loved her. Her skills as a tutor are remarkable. She is an analytical thinker, polished writer and overall accomplished academic who has a genuine passion for enhancing her students’ skills. Bridgete has a quiet and gentle demeanor, but she is closely registering everything you say as you begin a project with her. She is able to take in a huge amount of information rapidly, and begin helping you to figure out what steps are needed to complete a project. I have learned so much from her, particularly, on projects where there are multiple steps and complex requirements. She has showed me how to take high-level assignments and break it up into manageable steps that allow a student to make make organized progress. For me, that has been empowering as I have learned how to work in a way that manages the anxiety I sometimes feel when confronted with a great deal of academic work. Bridgette’s also has exceptional strength in research and analysis. She has an analytical brain that is able to help a student parse through complex research articles and extract the essence. I have learned so much from her as to how to read papers thoroughly but quickly, without sacrificing critical details. I have also learned so much from her about how to edit my own work. I have learned to go through my papers now and edit for word choice, grammar, and brevity. Before working with Bridgette, I would often write in a repetitive manner and am now able to edit my work to make it crisp and clear. I would recommend Bridgette for all students, but college students and social work students, in particular, would benefit from her support. I am so grateful to have found her because she has really helped me enjoy school and extract so much more meaning out of my coursework. I think it would be fair to say that I have learned more from working with Bridgette as I have from some of my actual professors! That is saying quite a lot because I’ve had many amazing professors throughout my schooling.

Great tutor!

Today I met Bridgette for my English lesson, she was very helpful, on time, well prepared, patient, ingenious, good listener, very kind... she was amazing! I live out state but I'd love still working with her so I highly recommend Bridgette.

Helpful and patient tutor

She helped Lundon develop ideas and then put them into sentences. Our first lesson with her inspired Lundon quite a bit, which is what we're looking for!

Excellent and thoughtful teacher

As a parent of a 7 grade boy, I have been looking for a ELA teacher who can help my son to improve his writing skills. We also hoped to find a teacher who can inject a good taste in the appreciation of dynamic and beauty of the language. We feel lucky and are very satisfied with Bridgette. She is very patient and motivating. And her teaching approach is systematic while tailored for my son's need. In addition, she is a good communicator to parents, providing a detailed class feedback note after each class... Highly recommended.
