Whether from English to French, or French to English, or to help those who have little or no English learn the English language. One of my students in a local high school scored the highest grade in all of Hillsborough county in her 2014 IB Test; two others went from failing grades to A+. Those are results I love to see!! I am now currently the Organizer of a pilot program for The Hillsborough County Literacy Council to teach those who want to learn English whether with every day learning, vocabulary, reading or grammar.

When I came to the United States, I spoke a mixture of French, Italian and Spanish. I didn't speak a word of English and felt inadequate in communicating with others. Not only was I extremely successful in learning the language, but I have mastered an extensive vocabulary, exact grammar and with no French accent. Since I had to learn a new language as an adult, I obtained a completely different outlook on how to best learn a new language and achieve consistent results.

My areas of expertise include a correct French pronunciation, a proven way to explain the intricacies of learning French, a fluency that only natives can have and a passion for teaching the correct way.

My experience includes teaching American citizens relocating to France, and French citizens relocating to the United States; translating books and pamphlets, correcting and proofreading numerous articles and brochures. I have written articles in French for different websites. I made a long term career in the legal field. I privately tutor seven students (from various countries including Haiti, Columbia, Panama, Algeria, Russia) for the Literacy Council in areas of basic English, vocabulary, grammar and reading.

I take great pride in my teaching capabilities and especially transferring that knowledge to others. It's a journey that leads to a far better life, better curriculum and numerous more doors to be opened. If that is the ty

Coming from a long line of French diplomats, my family still resides in different regions of France. Every year, I return to visit my family in Paris. I am fluent, have no accent either in French or in English and love to share the proper diction, vocabulary and grammar while having fun at the same time. I have a Baccalaureate in International Affairs and have lived in several European countries. I was educated in France and speak as a native. I teach to students of all grades, people who want to learn the language, or those who have a deep love for France. One of my French students received the highest grade in Hillsborough County on her 2014 senior IB test. Most of my students can expect to see results from barely passing or flunking to the mid-to-high 90s on tests. Those are goals I want to share with others. I would love to broaden your horizons by walking this French journey with you!!
Grammar,

Grammar

Grammar is like putting words into a puzzle and making it fit. Once the basics are incorporated, it becomes fun to learn. If one does not understand the concept of grammar, serious disadvantages can occur. Knowing proper grammar can open a lot of new possibilities, including self assurance, confidence and enthusiasm with the knowledge that the proper grammar is used. Getting the basic tools is very important and vital to good speech, especially in creating homework, writing and passing tests.
Proofreading

Proofreading

Numerous people do not know the importance of a comma, semi colon or punctuation. With 40 years of legal background, I have a special eye for good punctuation and sentence construction. I have proofread books, brochures, briefs, contracts, CAFERs, etc. Loving the "word" is respecting the meaning of a sentence and without good grammar and punctuation, the flow is ruined. Punctuation and grammar need to be in perfect unison for those that will read the context.

Reading,

Reading

Reading is fun and opens so many avenues in life. From early infancy to our older days, reading means adventure, dreams, hopes and goals. What is life without being able to read? There are no doors that can be opened without reading. If you make this subject fun, it can take on a new meaning of becoming a "must" do as opposed to a "have" to. Reading opens the minds to infinite possibilities and the journey is indescribable.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

There are so many ways to express words. Knowing the intricacies of the English vocabulary enhances the mind. Learning how to use vocabulary to mean the same thing but using different words opens up a whole world of possibilities. If you have a strong vocabulary, you can write anything. Make vocabulary a game and you'll see the attention perk up into new horizons.

Absolutely amazing!

Colette was an absolutely amazing tutor, I could not have possibly asked for someone better. I found her after looking into tutors who were familiar with the IB program as I was an IB student in High School. I decided to invest in a french tutor to help prepare me for the IB French Exam specifically. Colette was completely familiar with the formatting and topics involved in the exam which was incredibly helpful for me. Colette has an amazing teaching style and you can definitely tell that she has a passion for passing on her knowledge. She was incredibly dedicated to making sure that I not only learned the material but mastered it as well. If there are any students looking for a tutor, especially IB students, i highly recommend Colette. She is by far the best tutor I have ever come across.

Outstanding Tutor

I started taking lessons with Colette in the middle of my junior year in the IB program, and she has drastically improved my understanding and performance in French class. Not only did she teach me skills to tackle the different parts of the IB French exam, but she also taught me general pronunciation and grammar rules that I didn’t learn in class. I recommend Colette to anyone struggling to understand their French class, and for those who just want to improve their French speaking skills.

Very Helpful and Knowledgeable tutor

I received tutoring from Colette during my senior year in the IB program. Colette was very helpful in providing resources and finding things that would help me succeed. I felt like she makes an effort to not only help me pass tests but also to truly learn the language. Colette is very knowledgeable about the French language and even culture. Having the ability to talk to someone who is passionate about the language really facilitates learning. Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience with Colette. I have learned so much in just the last year which has truly allowed me to gain a passion to learn French. Last year, I was very dissatisfied with my French abilities, which led me to dislike learning the language. However, Colette makes french very interesting and engaging with her tutoring style. Thank you so much, Colette!

Very helpful

She did a fantastic job of explaining and expanding upon things I didn't initially understand. The sheets that I printed out before hand also gave me an added visual aid that I don't necessarily get when learning in the classroom.

Great Tutor

Colette was very easy to communicate with and set appointments. My daughter really likes working with Colette. She sends great worksheets the night before to work through during the lesson. My daughter says Colette is very nice and she seems to really be helping with her French.

Excellent French Tutor With Excellent Results from Freshman year to Senior year

Our son has been working with Colette for 3 1/2 years now. He started toward the end of his first semester freshman year at a local IB school. He had received an A and then a B. I was informed by the teacher that B's were good and I should not worry and that tutors were not necessary. I completely agree that B's are good but I know what my son is capable of., When I inquired about what he was learning I soon found out that listening to music and watching movies were the norm. I couldn't understand how he was to become fluent with this type of teaching so I followed my instincts and hired Colette. Wow!!! Colette has been the best "investment" that we have ever made in our son's education. She was immediately interested in what he was learning in school and poured through his french text books. Colette has many students and individualizes all of her lesson plans for each of her students needs. She is a stickler for correct pronunciation and proper grammar. Colette expects a lot from her students, but not more than she gives. If there was ever a question or a concept that our son was unclear on, she would return the next lesson or email him with a different approach and keep working with him until the concept was mastered. She is kind and patient and completely dedicated to her students successes. Colette is also very detailed in he lesson summary and review to parents. Not speaking french, I would have no idea what they were working on; however, with the extent of material in her reports we knew our son was in good hands. Thank you Colette for your dedication. French became enjoyable for our son very shortly after you entered the picture. His confidence blossomed almost overnight and he is now fluent in french and a leader in his class. As he approaches his IB exams, French is not one that he is stressing about. I recommed Colette to anyone serious about learning the French language.

Extremely helpful and knowledgeable

I'm learning French and have been having a very hard time with it. She has most definitely lightened my spirits and given me hope. She is a wonderful tutor and very understanding. She teaches you the right stuff and makes sure you understand it. She even is willing to help outside of regular tutoring without charging. She is a wonderful tutor and I highly advise you all to take her.
