Hello, I am Dr. Kayla! I earned my PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2022. I also received my masters in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2015 from University of New Haven and my bachelors in Biology from University of Saint Joseph in 2013. Over the past decade I have taught science courses, designed lectures, have worked as a teacher’s assistant, and tutored. Recently I have achieved my College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Level 1 certificate.

I believe that science should be fun and not be something that prevents you from achieving your goals. I have been told in the past by students and colleagues that I break tough concept down into easy and memorable ideas. I care about helping students gain the tools they need to succeed and become confident in their work. I do this by meeting students where they are. During my sessions I teach them how to build concept maps, outline courses, make connections, and how to draw ideas out. I also use the Socratic method to help students grow in independent learning and thinking. My goal after all is to have them succeed in their courses and be able to move forward on their own.

As someone who was the first to go to college and pursue a higher degree in the United States, I understand that it is very hard. Like most students, I was part of many groups and had jobs on campus to build my resume. I found during my educational journey that part of the process is learning more about oneself and figuring out what works best. Because of this, I learned a lot of ways to study, manage my time, test taking strategies, and coping mechanisms. I learned very quickly that memorizing truly knowing the material for a class is very hard, but it is not impossible.

I’m excited to be a tutor and help you succeed in your own educational journey! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to schedule a session with me.

Reviews

Knowledgeable and perceptive.

Her ability to help and test me on phrases and vocabulary is very helpful. Her knowledge about Spain and its culture, foods and people is even more helpful. My high school lessons are coming back but knowing about the styles and values of the people we will meet is the most important.

Knowledgable, patient, and effective tutor!

Kayla was able to dissect my syllabus and helped me create a more effective study method. She also managed to teach me and fill in gaps of missing information vital to processing the Big Picture. A huge bonus is the fact that her teaching methodology not only helps with retaining information but also enhances the ability to use and implement the information in a practical application.
