About Shelley

Bio

Community education has long been a passion of mine. After 20+ years in the hi-tech/corporate environment, I decided to share my knowledge and experiences with younger generations. Over my career I have designed and delivered analytical presentations, cognitive and skill-based trainings and workshops; I’ve effectively tutored professional staff in a variety of scientific subjects and skill-sets.

Community education has long been a passion of mine. After 20+ years in the hi-tech/corporate environment, I decided to share my knowledge and experiences with younger generations. Over my career I have designed and delivered analytical presentations, cognitive and skill-based trainings and workshops; I’ve effectively tutored professional staff in a variety of scientific subjects and skill-sets.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Hawaii, Manoa and a Master of Public Health degree from California State University, Northridge, specializing in heath education. While I'm passionate about math and science, I assist students in all academic subjects. For the past 10 years I have worked as an Interpretive Specialist, interpreting local history, nature, and the environment: I was also an after-school science enrichment teacher. I have tutored 1st grade to college, and professional certifications.

In support of my last tutor position, Spring 2016, I administered a Math or Language Arts Pre-Test, which conformed to Calif. Common Core Standards, and was approved by the school district. Upon scoring the Pre-Test, I identified deficient areas and generated a Student Learning Plan, with three goals. I generated the goals based on the appropriate grade level and subject area; the Student Learning Plan required district approval prior to the initiation of tutoring services. I possess California Common Core State Standards English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects Handbook, the California Common Core State Standards Mathematics handbook; both of which were Adopted by the California State Board of Education August 2010 and modified January 2013. I also posses the relevant testing tools.

Knowledgeable and patient

Shelly helprf my son with reviewing 7th grade math and some science. She assisted him with his homework and did not do it for him. She asked thought provoking questions that allowed him to figure the problem out himself. Awesome!
