I have a PhD in mathematics from Iowa State University. Besides my 5 years as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I have 32 years experience teaching university math courses professionally. I taught at a variety of schools, including University of Akron, Northeastern U., Iowa State U., Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Morehead State U., Transylvania U., U. of Kentucky, and Kentucky State University. I retired from university teaching August 2020. I was also an AP Calculus (AB and BC) Reader (National Exam grader) for 8 years up to and including 2020. (When I retired, AP amicably ended my Reader career as well. That is their rule.)

As a student I did undergraduate work at Kent State University and the University of Akron. I did graduate study at the U. of Akron, Northeastern U., M.I.T., and Iowa State U. In the process I passed Master's and PhD qualifying exams in Abstract Algebra, Analysis, and Foundations (Mathematical Logic & Set Theory). My Master's paper was on Non-standard Analysis, and my doctoral research focus was in Foundations.

I have taught university courses in College Algebra, Trigonometry, Finite Mathematics (including Linear Programming and Probability), Calculus (1, 2, 3), Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, History of Mathematics, Dynamical Systems, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Set Theory, Logic, Linear Programming, Operations Research, Complex Variables, Advanced Calculus, and Real Analysis. I also taught Intro to Celestial Mechanics, and Intro to Astronomy (the Solar System) at a Community College .

My all-time favorite mathematician is Euler.

My brother has been tutoring for Wyzant for several years, and urged me to do the same. I love mathematics, so perhaps I am the tutor you seek. If my profile interests you, please contact me and we'll see if I can help you with your math needs.

Calculus,

Calculus

I taught Calculus 1,2, and 3 at the college level many times, in Ohio, Massachusetts, Iowa, Indiana, and Kentucky. In addition, I was an AP Calculus-AB and -BC Reader (I.e., exam grader) for 8 years (including 2020, when for the first time the grading was done online). I also taught Differential Equations, Advanced Calculus, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, History of Mathematics (my favorite), Complex Variables, Intro to Real Analysis, Set Theory, Business Calculus, Business Statistics, Intro to Celestial Mechanics, and Intro to Astronomy.
Precalculus

Precalculus

In my career I taught Precalculus many times, as well as College Algebra and Trigonometry. In addition, I taught the Calculus sequence 1,2,3, and know what specific topics are needed from Precalculus for the next level.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I taught Intro to Differential Equations many times, the last being Spring 2020. I have also taught higher-level courses in Partial Differential Equations, Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations (including Dynamical Systems), and Celestial Mechanics (which mathematically was at the DE 1 level).
Finite Math,

Finite Math

Over my career I taught Finite Math (MA 162) multiple times at the university level. I am very familiar with its content. In addition, I also taught individual courses on the specific topics of Math of Finance, Linear Programming, Matrix Algebra, and Sets & Counting, all of which topics are introduced in Finite Mathematics.
Logic,

Logic

I studied Mathematical Logic at the graduate level, and my PhD math specialty was Foundations (Mathematical Logic and Set Theory). In addition, I taught the course Logic and Set Theory at Morehead State University, and taught graduate Axiomatic Set Theory at the University of Kentucky. I also taught the Introduction to Higher Mathematics course ( which was almost entirely intro to logic and proofs) at Kentucky State University.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

During my career I taught many courses in Trigonometry and Precalculus, In addition, I taught Calculus 1,2,3, and both Differential Equations and Complex Variables, all of which routinely involve techniques of Trigonometry. From solving triangles to Fourier Series, I know a lot about the subject, and should be able to help you with any concerns.

Fantastic BC Calc Tutor

He is an amazing tutor. My daughter uses him every time she struggles with her BC calc homework or needs help studying for a test.

TINGTING, 8 lessons with Andrew

Patient and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Went over some Calc 2 beginning topics. I appreciate that he allowed me the space to try and figure out problems before jumping in to help. Very friendly, very knowledgeable, and came prepared to work on what I had sent the night before. All around great time.
