Adobe InDesign

I have used InDesign since it was first created. I have been using it to layout my interactive multimedia books since 2005. I also taught InDesign as the software used for Electronic Layout at an arts college.

Film

My Bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University is in film. I studied there with Irving Saraf, who is an Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker. After graduating, Irving introduced me to producer Saul Zaentz (Amadeus, Incredible Lightness of Being, The English Patient, etc.), who subsequently hired me to build a post-production studio for him (in college I specialized in sound engineering and editing). It was my highest honor to work with the sound designer I consider the greatest ever to live there, Alan Splet. The studio also won several Academy Awards for Best Sound and Sound Editing. Since that time, I have moved into New Media, but have continued to work in film/video as a part of new media. I have also taught digital film/video, editing and sound design to professionals and college students for 10+ years. I am currently writing interactive books which include video, and consulting with the City of Glendale to establish training programs in digital film, design and WEB for unemployed studio workers.

Graphic Design

I have created sales and marketing graphic designs and graphic materials, print advertising and marketing materials, logo marks and presentations for corporate, legal and entertainment companies for 20+ years. My clients have included the (then) largest law firm in the U.S. - Howrey and Simon, Apple Computer, Iwerks Entertainment, Disney Imagineering, Johnson and Johnson, The Los Angeles Museum of Science, Philips, etc. I was employed as a full-time instructor of graphic design at California Design College and the Art Institute of California Hollywood between 2005 and 2008. In 2009 I began teaching also in the web design department, teaching web designers in the area of digital graphic design. Currently I am writing an interactive book series, for which I have created all of the graphic design, book cover designs, etc.

Marketing

I have created digital sales and marketing presentations and strategic plans for corporate, legal and entertainment companies for 20+ years. My clients have included the (then) largest law firm in the U.S.-Howrey and Simon, Apple Computer, Iwerks Entertainment, Disney Imagineering, Johnson and Johnson, The Los Angeles Museum of Science, Philips, etc. As Academic Director of the WEB Design and Interactive Media, and part-time faculty at the Art Institute - Hollywood between 2008 and 2013 and full-time faculty 2005-2008, I taught: Digital Branding and Marketing,, Social Media, and Advertising/Message Making to hundreds of students. I am what is referred to in my profession as a "digital native," in that my experience in marketing has been in the digital realm since I first worked as an Art Director for the first digital ad agency in L.A. starting in 1990. I am also currently designing a digital marketing and social media strategic plan for the City of Glendale in conjunction with a job training program they are offering to female veterans.

Macintosh

I have used Macintosh computers for 20+ years in my work as a Digital Marketing Creative Director, teacher at Disney Imagineering, college teacher at a design college and an arts college and digital author and artist. I have also taught computer basics (hardware, software, web, etc.) at all of those places.

Guitar

I am a multimedia artist, author and teacher. I taught interactive multimedia (including audio editing and sound design) at the college level for 10 years. I now devote my time to consulting and tutoring while I write and publish my own interactive multimedia books (filled with story, original music and original art). I have played guitar since I was 12 years old. My studies have all been private and self taught. I can supply examples of recordings on request if I am allowed to attach music files, otherwise, I could provide a CD. My first training was in classical guitar, but I moved early to playing finger style acoustic electric guitar myself. I also compose music and am currently recording my original music for an iBook interactive multimedia book series. My preference is to work with beginning students. Because I like to include music theory and the basic reading of music to get a student off on the right foot. I also think it is important to include fun as a student makes his/her way through the early learning of music, and the guitar is a great instrument for this. Simple chord progressions can be easily learned so that a student can play simple folk and rock songs and gain a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment while learning the details of music that are more time consuming to grasp and become adept at. I have many connections in the guitar community, especially because I manage the web site for The Association of Fingerstyle Guitarists, and have been a member of that organization for almost 15 years. Depending on the direction a student wants to go after completing a beginning course of lessons, I can direct him/her to other teachers in the area (if their interest is say, jazz, classical or electric rather than finger style).
