Hello I'm Ibrahim. I finished a BS in Mechanical Engineering and BA in Mathematics from the University of Rochester in 2017. Afterwards, I started a PhD program in Mechanical Engineering at U of R and graduated in 01/2023. My research is on fluid mechanics and magnetohydrodynamics. I'm passionate about learning and helping other people learn about math, physics, and engineering.

I approach tutoring as a journey, the student and I are taking together, to understand the material and do well. I try to understand how the student thinks, and tailor my explanation of the material so that they can understand it. Also, when solving practice/HW problems, I point out patterns in the problems and categorize them such that the student knows what tools to use to approach it. When applicable, I provide a summary of the material that the student can use when studying for tests or solving HW problems (ex. integration techniques, taking derivatives, parallel vs series circuits, etc...).

I have a experience teaching many students while at the University of Rochester, either as a teaching assistant (TA) or as a tutor. Some of the classes I was a TA of were Calculus I (differential), Calculus II (integral and series), MATLAB, and Vibrations. I've also tutored students privately in linear algebra, multivariable calculus, thermodynamics, statics and dynamics, and mechanics of materials.

My goal is to help the student as much as possible and welcome any suggestions/feedback from the students and their parents. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions!

MATLAB

I used MATLAB extensively during my research work for both data analysis and visualization. I have experience plotting graphs, contours, surfaces, and creating videos in publication quality. I’ve used MATLAB to perform frequency domain analysis, write finite difference numerical simulations, and automate analysis. I was the head TA for MATLAB classes at the mechanical engineering department at the University of Rochester for 4 semesters.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

Solving differential equations was an integral part of my graduate studies and research work. I have a lot of experience solving ODE's and linear PDE's (Elliptic or Poisson Eqn, Hyperbolic or Wave Eqn, and Parabolic or Heat/Diffusion Eqn) both analytically and numerically. Some analytical techniques I've used are Laplace transform, separation of variables, Green's functions, method of characteristics, linear stability. For numerical solutions, I normally use finite differences and have coded up both implicit and explicit, iterative and non-iterative, single and multi-step methods.

Smart, Knowledgable & Patient Intsructor

I'd struggled with a MATLAB project for months and didn't know Wyzant was a thing. I stumbled on it after a Google search and still didn't believe in the platform but Ibrahim just proved that it works. I sent my files prior explaining what I was trying to accomplish and he reviewed them before hand to let me know it was doable. During the tutoring session, he took time to understand further what the goal was. It would have been easier to just produce exactly what i needed but he was patient to explain basic concepts and codes, walking me through the process of creating a function and suggesting ideas that made my project better. He listened to every question I had and answered them clearly, breaking everything down by using examples for better understanding and didn't make me feel bad for not knowing. I not only got the solution to my project but also got to actually learn basic MATLAB coding. I will be contacting Ibrahim for all my MATLAB projects when I get stuck. He is truly a student's teacher.

Great Teacher!

Was very patient with me & reviewed all of the concepts I was struggling with very throughly!! He is very knowledgeable on these subjects, he knew all of the equations I was using. He helped me with the equation derivations & understanding how they work.

perfect fit

Ibrahim is a perfect fit for my needs. I am preparing for the FE civil exam and he explains things in a way that even I can understand (being out of school for many years). I recommend using his tutoring services as they are very useful!

knowledgeable, patient, excellent explanation!

Ibrahim is very clear in explaining the problems that I have with my Matlab project. Even though I make a mistake or still have difficulty understanding the problem, he will patiently go through it again until I understand. He gives me some examples, which I can use and implement in my project. Highly recommended tutor!!!!
