Hello, my name is Jake. I earned two Bachelor's degrees, one in Mathematics and the other in Physics, in college where I also became a lifetime member of the mathematics honor society Kappa Mu Epsilon. My undergraduate studies gave me many valuable experiences when it comes to the student/teacher dynamic. I was able to witness a large variety of teaching strategies and I found that there is not a single strategy that works for every student. When the college employed me as a math tutor, I was able to take advantage of this philosophy by remaining adaptive to each and every student that came to me. I was able to hold individual sessions as well as group sessions, all while catering to each student's individual needs and learning strategies. I had great success in not only raising GPA's, but also in solidifying a true understanding of the core mathematical concepts. I have since gone on to provide math tutoring at my local community college where I still employ the same principles that I learned while studying for my degrees.

On top of the tutoring that I had performed in college, I took part in grading assignments for some Physics classes that were offered at the college. This gave me more exposure to providing constructive feedback and seeing exactly where the students were falling short. I was able to hone my approach to tutoring by targeting the challenging problems that facilitate learning the material on a multi-faceted level. Instead of providing one simple example after another, I found it largely beneficial to provide complex examples that exercise many concepts at once to demonstrate the connectivity of the content. When the material is studied at this level, deeper connections can be made and the material can be appreciated and understood as a whole.
