Hello! Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself. I love learning and helping students in their learning journeys, and it has been my joy and honor to teach hundreds of incredible students over the years, with unique and diverse giftings, abilities, and challenges. I am approachable, patient, and positive, and seek to communicate clearly with my students and their parents.

One of the subjects I enjoy most is reading, and addressing areas of need in the foundations of reading. I love being able to take time to strategically and systematically guide students to be more skilled and confident readers, knowing that reading ability affects students through not only their academic careers, but throughout their lives. Some extra intervention in this area can make such a difference!

I also love teaching math! I enjoy problem solving and have taught/tutored math topics from Elementary to Middle School level. On occasion, I even like getting on Khan Academy to brush up on some of my higher math skills. :)

I graduated summa cum laude in 2005 with my Bachelor of Arts in Education and am certified in Elementary Education K-6 and Exceptional Student Education K-12. I also have my ESOL and Reading Endorsement. I have taught in various capacities during my career, including over 15 years in elementary education in my local public school district, over 5000 online classes teaching English to students in China, and private tutoring in reading and mathematics.

I taught elementary math on an almost daily basis for over 12 years as an inclusion teacher and then 4th grade teacher in public elementary schools, As one who enjoys math, I enjoy teaching it, and try to encourage a positive approach and appreciation for its importance in our lives. I seek to break down concepts in a way that draws students into a deeper understanding, but also provide strategies and sharpen skills that allow them to solve problems accurately and efficiently.

With my first seven years experience working as an ESE inclusion teacher, I gained skills in developing lesson plans and delivering instruction and accommodations in alignment with students' learning needs. Throughout my time in the classroom, I collaborated with our education teams to evaluate progress, set goals, and plan and implement students' IEPs (Individual Education Plans). As a regular education 4th grade teacher, I continued to be one of the classrooms hosting most of our students with learning disabilities or autism spectrum disorders, working closely with the inclusion teacher to meet student need and build an inclusive learning environment. As a private tutor, I have pursued training in the Barton Reading and Spelling Program, which is an Orton-Gillingham style program designed especially for students with Dyslexia who struggle with reading. It is a research and evidence-based intensive intervention program that is multi-sensory, direct, explicit, structured and sequential. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Special Education from the University of North Florida and am certified in Exceptional Student Education, K-12.
