I excel in breaking down complex subjects, developing content understanding and honing skills that enable more effective learning and communication. By illustrating core concepts, I strengthen comprehension and confidence, improving critical thinking, reading, and writing abilities. For AP class prep, I ensure that students understand official AP rubric requirements by providing effective models that guide speedy, high-scoring compositions.

For 15+ years, I have been teaching in-person and online in high school and college classrooms in the United States and Japan. I serve annually as an AP grader for AP World History (WHAP), though I also teach and score materials for AP US History (APUSH) and AP European History (AP Euro). As a former English department chair, I taught and supervised AP Lit and AP Lang courses. As an editor, I have managed writing centers specializing in college admissions (Common App, as well as graduate, medical and law school), research, and writing fluency. Additionally, I have been engaged by academic publishing firms in the revision of multiple AP-approved textbooks. These days I split my time between academics and agriculture, teaching online classes while I run a three-acre organic teaching farm where I demonstrate sustainable practices.

The classes I teach at high school and university levels include World/Global History, Japanese History, Chinese History, East Asian Civilizations, Environmental History, American Environmental History, US/American History, Modern European History, American Government (AP Gov), the History of Science and Technology, American Lit, British Lit, Literary Criticism, Nature Writing, Mythology and Folklore, and Introduction to Philosophy.

Best tutor ever

I started looking for an English tutor to help me study for the AP English Language test during sophomore year, since there was no AP specific class at my high school. The connection with Adam during the trial class was immediate. He was very knowledgeable and methodical, but at the same time personable and fun to work with. I ended up extending our lessons beyond the AP preparation, so that he could help polish my writing for high school assignments in English and US/World History. His passion for these topics transformed dull tasks into exciting discussions. In addition, Adam helped me talk out ideas and edit my college application essays, and thanks to his valuable guidance, I ended up going to a top 5 Liberal Arts College. Of course, Adam continued to assist me with some complicated college assignments and when I decided to transfer, he was able to fit in lessons into my busy schedule. I was accepted at several highly ranked universities and will be attending a top 5 Ivy League school. All of this is to say that I owe so much of my success to Adam. He is the best tutor you will ever come across (and I have tried several before meeting him). He is efficient yet patient and connects with students on a more personal level, to become a real friend. My parents absolutely love Adam. He goes above and beyond and is also very good about fitting in lesson time, even if I need help editing last minute assignments. I am so grateful for everything Adam has done for me and for his kindness, efficiency, and unlimited support. I could not recommend Adam more as a tutor. Side note, since Adam is in a different time zone, his hours are the best, especially if you are usually busy during the day with school.

I wanted to take a moment to express our sincere appreciation for the incredible impact you've had on my son's learning journey. Your ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment has made a significant difference in his attitude towards academics. An Amazing Educator

Adam is far more than just a tutor. He’s an extremely knowledgeable educator. My son missed 2 months of his Sophomore year of High School, due to a head injury. Without my son being able to attend daily lecture, Adam became my son's front line of education in the subjects of World History and English for the entire 4th quarter. With Adam’s instruction, my son earned As in both subjects, where we were initially hoping to simply pass the courses and complete his Sophomore year. Adam is patient and extremely thorough. He not only covers the coursework material in detail, but ensures that his student understands clearly. It is obvious that Adam is passionate about teaching, and he cares about his students’ learning. Adam is the best English and History tutor we have ever worked with, and we will definitely be reaching out to him again in the future!

Amazing AP Euro, US and World History Tutor

My sister and I starting learning with Adam in the pandemic. He actually taught, reviewed and prepared us for our AP Euro exam. We both got a 5 which was nothing short of amazing since I am a more if a STEM person. The way in which Adam taught me history was logical. He helped me make connections in between the things I learned on my own and in school. He taught me how to write the backbone of my essays and we discussed possible essay subjects for each chapter. His knowledge of history is deep and his energy in transmitting it contagious. He insisted on the finer points until I started getting the complexity points on the essays. He was always prepared, in time, and with a smile. He managed to transfer me his enthusiasm until I become an A+ student in AP US History and World History. Thank you so much! You are great teacher!
