Over the past 11 years, I coordinated a Gifted Program and taught Gifted Children. Previously, I was an Adjunct Instructor at the College of New Jersey and Northampton Community College. However, prior to transitioning into teaching, I held positions in Marketing and Management. These experiences helped me learn to facilitate the learning process thereby helping others learn to achieve for themselves.

As an Educator, I have written research proposals, reviewed submissions for grants, and facilitated student achievement, while preparing students for state and national competitions. Nevertheless, my business activities’ including hiring, training, and managing employees clearly influences how I work with students. These experiences taught me to listen carefully, reflect on the problem, and provide a reasoned response to effectively achieve a goal.

My focus is on the writing process. Depending upon the age of a student, I will approach the process differently. For example, younger children tend to respond better to prompts related to their interests whereas a college student may be concerned about the best way to construct an essay for a particular class. I will adjust and provide material, recommendations, and/or a directed response that is appropriate to the needs of a particular student.

As a Sales and Marketing Manager, I interfaced with clients, trained sales representatives, and spoke at large events. In addition, as the President of a Home Owners Association, I represented its interests in the community for nine years. Finally, as a teacher of gifted children for eleven years, I help students develop public speaking skills. They use these skills to debate and/or Chair at a Mini-Model Congress held at the New Jersey State House.

During my workday, I review student papers and provide feedback. However, I also prepare students for writing challenges and competitions. Some of these include, writing a Legislative Bill for Mini-Model Congress, submissions to the Ayn Rand Institute essay competition, and submissions to InvestWrite, part of a Stock Market challenge. These writing activities require different approaches and styles. Nevertheless, each activity requires an accurate assessment of your topic, how to use the language to support your ideas, and the application of grammatical rules.
