Math and physics are both complex subjects that are built upon many years of scientists and mathematicians struggling with ideas. And in school, students are asked to tackle the same problems that faced Isaac Newton, Einstein, and others. They're not easy subjects and don't come easily to many people. In fact, they require many hours of practice and thought even for the people that are 'good' at them. And you may very well feel like it doesn't come naturally to you.

Often the material in one chapter is built upon a foundation of many ideas. And if you didn't quite understand that earlier material, getting the new parts can be frustrating, difficult, and almost impossible sometimes.

Having a good tutor that has been through the challenges in your classes will save you time and frustration. Understanding how each idea relates back to material that you do understand will make math and physics much less of a headache.

Mathematics and physics are subjects I enjoyed in school and tutored in as well as being a teaching assistant. I have spent thousands of hours working through problems and a great deal of time helping students work through problems as well.

I supervised the MPC math lab in 2011, helping with math and physics and taught physics as a professor at Monterey Peninsula College for one year.

For my undergraduate degree, I attended Santa Clara University. Took some great classes there and learned how to help other students being a student tutor and TA for each term after my first quarter for the next four years.

Following that I attended NPS studying applied physics with an emphasis in acoustics. I acted as TA part of the time for the physics professor I worked for during my graduate studies.

Recently I took a position in the math lab at MPC and then as a physics professor.

Music is my passion, I love playing saxophone.

I like to teach and have developed new ways of looking at things other than how I was taught and/or do things. I also listen and have patience and am able to help many stude

Spanish,

Spanish

I began learning Spanish in high school and went through Spanish 4. For the last eight years I have played with a salsa band which primarily does music in Spanish as well as two other bands also with music in Spanish. Have ended up speaking Spanish quite a bit in my daily life. I also learned German and began Chinese two years ago, so I am familiar with the process of picking up new languages.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

Elementary math is a foundation for later math classes. You use it in science classes as well. With a lot of practice, I know many methods of reducing steps and simplifying the processes for elementary math.

Knowledgeable and focused

Neal worked with me for quite a while and helped me stay on task. He narrowed down what I really needed to do to have a better grasp of physics.

very attentive and patient

My daughter spent a session reviewing algebra with Neal. He was very conscientious in prep, asked prior to the session what her curriculum was, etc.

IT & Tutor Advisor

Neal was superb. Fixed a couple of IT issues and commenced a basic computer tutorial program. He was everything I hoped. His knowledge of computer basics along with marketing and social media skills are outstanding.

Huge help with Chemistry!

Neal was wonderful with my 15-year-old son. He was very patient and very concise. When he left, my son told me that Neal had made many things clear to him that he had not understood before. It is a huge relief to know that we have a person who is available to help with a subject that we as parents are no help with!

Excellent tutor!

Outstanding and very helpful. I am looking forward to working with Neal on trig and physics. He is able to explain the rational behind the problem and answer in a way that helps to make a connection. Thank you!

Terri, 15 lessons with Neal

Super helpful!

I've never had a tutor before Neal and I was unsure of how helpful he would be, but after two sessions with him I was able to raise my physics grade a whole grade letter. He also helped me with my calculus work.
