I have a PhD in German Studies from Stanford University, an MA in German Studies from Stanford University, a BA in Germanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Michigan, a BA in Linguistics from the University of Michigan, and a BM in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan. (Yes--that is a total of five degrees.) As a PhD student, I taught all levels of German to Stanford undergraduates and graduate students for 7 years. After receiving my PhD, I taught all levels of German at the high school level at Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN for 6 years. I recently changed positions and am currently employed at a German International School as the Curriculum Coordinator; however, I realized that I missed teaching German to high school students!

My AP German students have had an average pass rate of 91% over 6 years, including two years with a 100% pass rate for my students. I have been an AP reader for three years and have experience rating the AP German free response tasks for all AP German exam takers globally. I was also a writer and editor for the most recently released AP German sampler exam, published by the College Board on the official AP German exam website.

I can help you prepare for the AP German Exam, whether you would like additional practice with multiple choice reading/listening or any of the 4 free response tasks. I use immersion techniques when teaching and give extensive feedback with a rapid turnaround time. I am happy to provide refresher lessons on any grammatical questions you may have, and can provide you with vocabulary commonly found on the AP German exam. I have a wealth of resources available and look forward to helping you feel prepared the AP German exam!

Music Theory

I have a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. As a piano performance major, I was required to take seven semesters of college music theory (one less than required for a music theory or a composition major). I have extensive knowledge of music theory, including written and aural music theory skills; keyboard theory and figured bass; jazz theory and composition; tonal music analysis; and 18th century counterpoint. I have been a private piano teacher since 2010, with an emphasis on practical music theory and technique since 2021. I have also written AP Music Theory exam prep questions, explanations, and drills, for a well-regarded online test preparation company.
