My 25 years of experience inside and outside the system gives you and your students the solutions you need to succeed.

My 25 years of experience inside and outside the system gives you and your students the solutions you need to succeed.

20 years ago I started a school on this premise: When all factors are accounted for self-education is the heart of all education. We took remedial ninth graders and brought them all up to grade level in almost all subjects within a single school year. Good self-educators understand the value of guided self-education, and self-educators-in-training usually need guidance in learning how to self-educate most effectively. But the premise is solid.

Since then, I have helped students in almost every area and at almost every level. I have
- Helped students develop their reading, writing, reasoning, research, concentration, organization, test-taking, notetaking, imagination, mathematical reasoning, scientific reasoning, and so much more.
- Helped ADD/ADHD students overcome their attention struggles and develop systems to help them thrive.
- Helped Dyslexic students overcome their reading struggles and become readers extraordinaire.
- Helped students achieve near-perfect scores in both the ACT and the SAT.
- Helped students develop both academic and career goals and map out the steps required to reach them through high school, college, and beyond.
- Developed school curricula and advised institutions and homeschool families.
- Taught Kindergarten, Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and College.

My mission: To find and develop a new and better model of education.

That's what I've done. I work with individuals, families, schools, and business. I locate the cause of their challenges and develop personalized solutions. I can help you with any education challenge small or large.

Here on WyzAnt I am highlighting only two services, both part of the college entrance process:
- Test Prep
- College Planning

If you're interested in something else, we can discuss options.

Reading,

Reading

Reading and other study skills are my true specialty-areas. I relish the effort to help students improve not just a score or a grade, not just a piece of information or bit of knowledge, but to help them improve their ability to gain and maintain scores and grades, information and knowledge. That's what the teaching process is all about: Helping students learn how to learn for themselves.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

Ultimately, education is a learning endeavor, not a teaching endeavor. Students must be ready, willing, and able to learn. If they are not, good teaching will do nothing for them. Studying the “right” subjects will do nothing for them. The only thing that will help them is to apply themselves to what they are studying. Or to put it another way: They must study. The word student itself implies personal initiative in the education process. Not all people who attend school are students, strictly speaking. Some of them might better be called “attendees.” They come to class, but little more. The role of the teacher in education is to understand, communicate, motivate, facilitate, and inspire. It begins with understanding. The teacher enters the classroom full of students, some eager, some not. He must first take in and understand the members of his class. The old adage applies here as well as anywhere: “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” The teacher who never understands his or her students will never truly be able to teach them. The sooner the teacher understands each student, the sooner each student will begin to learn, and therefore, the more and better each will learn. A large part of understanding students is being able to see where they are in their understanding of the subject at hand. As a teacher and tutor, my goal when teaching study skills is to help students in three fundamental areas, based on (1) their current level of ability and (2) their current need. The three areas are (a) Reading, (b) Reasoning, and (c) Rendering. These three areas can collectively be called studying, and each of the three areas has techniques associated with it that, when learned and applied properly, make the whole of studying more effective. The three areas are, of course, overlapping and recursive processes. We go through each of them again and again throughout a course of study. My study skills course is in three sections, one related to each of the three areas of study skills. The first includes reading com

Responsive, Attentive and Thorough

Great first session with Courtney H. He is extremely responsive, and got the ball rolling quickly. Although we've only had one session at this point, he was attentive to my son's particular needs and provided a helpful followup recap of their session.

Anne, 3 lessons with Courtney

First Session

Courtney was able to establish key areas for improvement with how my daughter takes test. This is helpful and she's starting to apply the knowledge . We have several more sessions to go before the ACT Test, I'll submit another review at the end of all sessions.

Missy, 7 lessons with Courtney

Excellent Tutor

Courtney was super easy to work with and taught me great quantitative tactics for the GMAT exam. I'd recommend him again and look forward to sharing my progress and building on that in our next session.

Dee, 2 lessons with Courtney

Great tutor!

In only 4 sessions with Mr. H, my son's SAT score has soared up to a whopping 2160 from a stagnating 2000. He has clearly demonstrated that he is very effective, as he quickly discovered my son's time phobia for SAT and also resolved it with expedition. Therefore, he is a marvelous tutor.

Brigitte, 9 lessons with Courtney

Effective and attentive to the student

My daughter looks forward to meetings and bounces through a variety of topics. Courtney has patiently given great guidance and enhanced her confidence. Highly recommended.

Excellent English ACT Tutoring Session

We were very impressed and satisfied. Courtney taught my son reading skills necessary for successfully taking the English and Reading parts of the ACT. My son’s reading comprehension has greatly improved, and he has a renewed confidence and a great understanding of what is required for the ACT.

Gets results

Courtney tutored our daughter, specifically to help her improve her SAT scores. She had a few group sessions with Courtney between the 2nd and 3rd try at the SAT. After the 3rd attempt, her scores were high enough for her to receive a full academic scholarship! Thank you Courtney.

Great SAT tutor!

I hired Courtney to work with my daughter on the SAT reading and writing portions. He had worked with her just for about two months, and in that short time, he was able to help her raise her score by 250 points. That is absolutely excellent and I am very pleased with his work. I am now getting him to help her in the math section as well. I would highly recommend him.
