I lived there for almost eight years and consider myself almost fluent in Spanish. I teach academic writing, which includes paragraph and sentence structure, punctuation, self-editing techniques and grammar. I also teach oral communication, vocabulary building, reading, pronunciation and accent reduction. I have taught students from all backgrounds and nations, from middle-school age to senior citizens. I am patient, creative, have a good sense of humor, and try to make the lessons interesting and relevant. I have created hundreds of my own lesson plans and dialogues using grammar points, literature, vocabulary and pronunciation. I am also a four-time award-winning journalist (NY Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest) and freelance as an editor, proofreader and fact-checker. With me you get the entire package of English-language skills and knowledge, honed over more than 25 years in the field. And just to round out my skills, I am a hobbyist photographer, have been in many group art shows in NYC and Conn. and have won awards in several online competitions.

I taught academic writing at Baruch and Hunter Colleges for many years. That comprised of teaching how to write five-paragraph essays on a wide range of topics, with warm-up writing exercises. My course also emphasized grammar, punctuation and self-editing techniques. I also taught CLIP at BMCC - how to write a well-organized argument. As a professional proofreader, copy editor and editor, I work with students on their personal statements for undergraduate or graduate school, essays, projects and resumes, the full package of academic (and beyond) services. In addition, I am a three-time award-winning journalist (NY Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest), so I not only know how to teach writing, but I am also successful at it. And I can make you successful as well.

I like the way she helped me to clear my doubts about the English pronunciation and grammar. I appreciated the New York history tips that she gave me while we were working and this made the lesson even more interesting. She is very patient and I am very happy I found her!

Good, prepared teacher

Bonnie was good, prepared, and brought good stuff for practicing. She is helping me to enlarge my vocabulary. She is teaching me by reading articles about New York and giving me local information.

Engaging Tutor!

I really liked Bonnie's classes. She reviewed a lot of grammar with me but, mostly, she focused on pronunciation, as that was my main interest. She gave me many exercises, and really stressed the spots I have more difficulty with. One simple thing I really liked was how she always tried to engage in conversation, taking notes while we chatted about various things, so at the end she could point out the things I've said wrong or could improve. She is very friendly and organized and I found her didactics to be great. Bonus for the small bits of America/New-York history she gave every now and then, especially, related to English language.

Excellent tutor

Bonnie is an excellent tutor. She is very patient and understanding. I like the fact that she was able to correct my grammar without disrupting the message I was trying to give to other readers.
