I am a former university lecturer (Physics & Calculus), and high school teacher (Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, Math), with many years of experience in tutoring students from second grade to university (BMCC, Queens College, Stony Brook). I have tutored students from some of the top high schools in NYC (Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Cardoza, Bayside High, Hunter High, York College, Townsend Harris, and Brooklyn Technical), preparing them for standardized exams such as the ACT, SAT, SAT II subject tests, Regents, AP, and College Finals.

My students have done extremely well with scores such as 4 &5 in AP Physics, and Calculus, 750 - 800 in SAT II Physics, 760 - 800 in SAT II Math, 800 on the SAT math sections, to name a few.

With my easy going approach, I identify problem areas in the student's reasoning, strategies, and content. I then focus on a detailed plan to get the student to overcome the problem areas. This approach has seen an increase in confidence, and significant boost in students scores at school exams, or at standardized exams.

I encourage students to contact me, and find out how else I can assist them in Math (all areas), Physics (all levels), and Chemistry (Regents, SAT II).

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

For the last three years, I have tutored a brother (presently 5th grade) and his sister (presently 7th grade). The parents love my style of tutoring, and the positive effect I have on their children. Furthermore, I have taught elementary Math to small classes (5-8 students) of grades 4 and 5 at a tutoring academy during summer school. The reviews I received from the students, and the director of the academy of my style of teaching were very favorable.
Elementary Science,

Elementary Science

I have worked with students in elementary (grades 2-5) and middle school (grades 6-8), helping them to become proficient in reading, comprehension, science, and math skills. All students showed significant improvement in the subject areas, and went on to do well in the state wide exams. I have even prepared some students for either the SHSAT (grade 7) or the Hunter High School (grade 6) entrance exam.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

For a number of years, I have been teaching/tutoring students in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and the more recent Common Core Algebra. Most of my students have excelled at the Regents exam (90+ scores).
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

For the last 10 years, I have taught, or tutored students in most areas of Math. Some of my students were high school seniors or first year college students who were taking College Algebra.
Calculus,

Calculus

My qualifications in Calculus include the following. - I have taught or tutored AP Calculus (AB & BC) to high school juniors and seniors (Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Technical, Brooklyn Friends School). Most obtained 4 or 5. - I tutored College students (BMCC, Queens College, Stony Brook, Manhattan College, Buffalo University) in Calculus I and II. Most obtained scores of A or B in their college finals.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I have over twelve years experience teaching/ tutoring Chemistry at the following levels: Regents SAT II Honors AP General Chemistry I & II
Geometry,

Geometry

I have been teaching/ tutoring Geometry during the last 12 years, at an after school academy in Bayside. I taught small groups of students (3 - 10), or provided tutoring to individual students. Topics covered included Logic, Geometric proofs, Geometry of the plane, 3-D Geometry. These are some of the topics that are covered in the Common Core, or in honors Geometry. Most of my students obtained high scores (90 +) at the Regents examinations.
Physics,

Physics

Within the last five years, I have tutored many college students in first and second year college physics. These students were from Stony Brook University, BMCC, Queens College, and Manhattan College. Most obtained B averages (initially they were failing); a few others obtained A or C averages.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is generally taught in Middle School. I have 10 years of experience teaching or tutoring grade 6 students in Prealgebra. I identify areas where students are weak, and then develop individualized plans to help each student progress to a higher level.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

For the last 10 years, I have taught or tutored students in most areas of Math. Most of my students who took Precalculus were high school juniors or seniors. Topics covered included Sequences and Series, Limits, Conic Sections, Sketching graphs, Finding roots of a Polynomial, Complex Numbers, etc. This was a difficult subject for most of the students. However, with proper guidance on techniques in problem solving, all became adept in mastering challenging problems, and went on to do well in their exams.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

For the last 10 years, I have been teaching SAT Math classes at an academy in Bayside, or privately tutoring individual students. Most of my students earned scores between 700 and 800 on the math sections of the SAT exam; a small number of them obtained a perfect 800.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

The ACT Math section consists of 60 problems which are to be completed in 60 minutes. It includes Prealgebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Logarithm. During the last three years, I tutored a number of students in ACT Math, and the results were impressive - students scores improved significantly. For instance, a repeat student improved from a 5 to an 8 while another improved from a 7 to a 9 in Math. This was due to the different style of tutoring for each student, where I identified individual weaknesses, and provided guidance and strategies on how to overcome such weaknesses. The results in the student's ability to minimize errors, thereby leading to an improvement in scores.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

During my undergraduate years, I took Math courses that involved finding the solutions to differential equations of the linear and non linear type. I obtained A's in these courses. In addition, I have tutored a student from Manhattan College throughout a whole semester, on solving first and second order differential equations of the homogeneous, and non homogeneous types. He ended with an A average for the course. I have tutored other college students (Queens College, BMCC, Stony Brook) in non- Calculus and Calculus based physics. In the latter, I assisted students in finding solutions to problems involving first and second order differential equations from Mechanics, Gravity, EM Theory (Maxwell's Equations), and LCR circuits. In every case, each student finished his/ her course with either an A or B average.

I have great experience teaching or tutoring Algebra 2 and Trigonometry during the last 8 years. I taught small groups of students (4 - 7), or provided tutoring to individual students. Topics covered included the following: Graphs of Trig. functions, Solving Trig. equations, Proving identities, Unit Circle, Finding areas of intersection of geometric shapes, Equation of the conic section, functions, solving algebraic equations, etc. My method of teaching this subject makes it easy for a student to understand. It is mainly for that reason that most of my students obtained high scores (90 +) at the Regents examination.

Reading

Science

ACT Science,

ACT Science

The ACT Science does not require a student to have any prior knowledge of any Science subject. However, students must be able to comprehend passages, and interpret or infer information from graphs and tables. Nevertheless, the most important factor for a student to do well is probably time management - a student has only 35 minutes to answer 40 science questions. To get the student to do well in this section, my tutoring techniques focus on speed reading, identifying keywords, and how to correctly interpret the information that is given.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I have over twelve years experience teaching/ tutoring Chemistry at the following levels: Regents SAT II Honors AP General Chemistry I & II

Physical Science

My university studies have been in the Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, and related applied fields). For this reason, most of my teaching and tutoring experience (over 10 years) has focused on the physical sciences and Math. My techniques allow me to quickly discern a student's weaknesses (most of the time, it is lack of knowledge), and to implement a plan to overcome such weaknesses.

Knowledgeable & Patient Tutor

My daughter was very happy with the session. Hilton was very thorough and taught slowly enough for her to understand, but not too slowly. We were grateful to get him on rather short notice, too, and will be asking him back.

Excellent tutor!!

Initially my ninth grade daughter was not happy that she had to sit with a tutor on her day off, however she was smiling after her two hour session because Hilton did such an excellent job explaining the material. She felt very confident and is prepared.
