As I said in my caption I love to teach and learn. I have a Master's in Learning Disabilities. This degree has helped me diagnose any learning problems that a student might have. I taught Special Education for 30 years and taught on all levels. I also tutored students for SAT tests. I think I am a successful tutor because I love to communicate new concepts to students.

When I co-taught Biology, the teacher I worked with developed amazing labs for the students to do in class. These labs were not in the book and the students were amazed that we were doing something original. He had his doctorate and had worked at a pharmaceutical company before he got his teaching degree. From his former experience he developed these labs I organized and structured the lab group where everyone had a specific job and made significant contributions to the group. When we were evaluated by the principal he said that we created one on the best labs that he ever observed.

I have taken courses that give me a wide spectrum on the subject. I took microbiology, genetics, embryology, ecology and zoology. Since I co-taught Biology I think it gave me a unique perspective on how do work with students on different levels. Of course I had my students in the class but also students who were gifted and just normal students. I think other teachers have this experience but in any science class you are writing labs, drawing conclusions and making inferences. A unique situation.

I am confident that I can help a student become successful in their academic career. I also taught a class on organizational skills at the high school level. We worked on organizing term papers, homework, essays and other writing projects. I helped them plan out their time so they actually did not wait until the last minute to get everything completed. I also conferred with parents on how successful the students were and what work were they doing at home. This helped me achieve my goals with the students. I have tutored for a long time and have many

English

I am certified in English. I have worked with students with all facets of English on the elementary, middle school and high school levels. The basics of mechanics of English are important in the curriculum. I think it is important to have the students doing various types of writing such as informative, persuasive and editorials. I believe that vocabulary, reading comprehension and contrast and compare are essential parts of an English curriculum. For my class it was essential that everyone read a book a semester which is important to keep students reading. English encompasses a comprehensive curriculum with goals and objectives that students must pass to be successful in classes.
Literature,

Literature

I have worked on all facets of English. We worked on short stories, poetry and novels. In the classes that I worked in the students were expected to do outside readings. Both school districts had a high percentage of students going to college so the English classes were rather rigorous. My special education classes were different in that my requirements were altered. I still required writing every day and we did most our novels in class. I also taught a study skills class where I emphasized organizational skills and study habits. I had mostly seniors for that class

ADHD,

ADHD

I was a special education teacher for 30 years and I worked with students with various exceptionalities. I worked with students who had learning disabilities, were emotionally disturbed or were ADHD. The ADHD students needed structure in the classroom and organizational skills for their classroom work. With these students I worked closely with the parents who would give me further information on their child. With this type of student concepts may have to be explained a different way or explained in concrete terms. I try to teach most of my students using these methods. Most of these students are quite intelligent but need to stay focused and on task to learn. I am confident that I can work with children who have the exceptionalities I mentioned and help them succeed in their academic challenges.
