Hello, my name is Makia. I am a certified teacher who has over 10 years experience teaching in Prince George's County, Baltimore City, and Harford County in the state of Maryland. I started as a fourth-grade self-contained teacher (teaching all subjects) and then eventually became the fourth-grade reading teacher at Potomac Landing in Fort Washington, MD. After moving to the Baltimore area, I taught fourth-grade Literacy and Social Studies at Gwynns Falls Elementary and various grade levels and subject areas in Harford County, MD. I have extensive experience working with students with special needs, and homeschooled children.

I believe that today's children are not as successful in school because the curriculum being taught is a "cookie-cutter" program that is delivered to all students the same way. However, it is my belief that students need to have their individual needs addressed by providing them with multiple ways to not only access the curriculum but also to show mastery of what they have learned.
