I've been working with children since 1989, and have significant experience as a classroom teacher, full time tutor, and child care professional. I completed my B.S. in Elementary Education and followed that by attaining a M. Ed. in Reading and Language Arts. I earned both degrees from Oakland University in southeastern Michigan. I hold current (State of Georgia) teaching credentials with special emphasis in the areas of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle School Education. While my University concentrations were in Elementary Education, Social Studies, Reading and Language Arts, much of my practical, classroom experience is in Mathematics.

My years as a professional tutor have been characterized by significant work with students (ranging from Pre-K to High School) in Reading, Math, Writing, and English as a Second Language (ESL). I also have extensive experience working with Special Needs students, including children diagnosed with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. I help students sharpen their Test Taking Skills prior to taking Standardized tests such as the Georgia Milestones, ITBS, etc. While most lessons are taught on an individual basis, small group (reading) instruction is available. Under special circumstances, I also work with adult students, typically for English Language instruction, Literature study, and transition or reentry into the work force.

I maintain a professional office in Alpharetta and tutoring sessions are held there. Sessions are typically one hour long and availability is generally on afternoons, evenings and weekends. Special arrangements are available for families of Home School students, students in transition, or adult students. The office is conveniently located near GA 400 and Hwy. 9 (near the new Avalon shopping center). While most families choose one hour sessions, I do offer longer session times to suit your family's needs.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th)

I earned my B.S. in Elementary Education from Oakland University (a fully accredited university in southeastern Michigan) by graduating summa cum laude in 2005. I followed this by earning a Master's Degree (specializing in Reading and Language Arts) from the same university. This qualifies me to be a Reading Specialist for students from beginning reading/Pre-K through High School. I worked as an elementary school teacher (2006-2010) in both fifth and second grade, in Fulton County, Georgia. I moved on to create my own small tutoring business, which has been in operation from 2011 until now. I hold a current State of Georgia Educator Certificate which qualifies me to teach all subjects (Pre-K through 5) and Middle Grades (4-8) with special emphasis on Reading, Language Arts and Social Sciences.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I hold a B.S. in Elementary Education and have taught Mathematics as both a public school teacher (2nd and 5th grade) and private tutor for many years. I can help students address all Math challenges at the elementary level, whether they are struggling with the core curriculum, more traditional work, or have some other needs. If your child seems to know the material, but has trouble demonstrating such knowledge on tests (assessments) I can help with that too. I will show your child how to properly prepare for tests and to address issues that arise during test taking. I can also assist with other challenges including how to more precisely think, discuss, read and write about Math. Regardless of your child's current level of expertise in Math, I can help him or her to gain a more solid understanding of the concepts involved, and to become a more confident Math student.
Reading

Reading

In addition to holding a Master's Degree in Reading and Language Arts, I have taught reading to students of all ages (Pre-K through adult). I can help your child to become a more successful reader in many areas, ranging from a formalized reading disability (dyslexia) to correcting minor reading challenges, or even improving overall reading comprehension. I have significant experience as both an Elementary School teacher and private tutor. I currently work with students from the beginning (Early Literacy) through advanced (High School/college prep.) stages of reading. Regardless of your child's reading challenges or mastery, I can help.

Makes math fun!

Tim has been great with my daughter, who isn't typically excited about math. He makes it fun, helping her enjoy doing her math work with more confidence. He is easy to work with in tailoring the tutoring sessions to our individual needs.

Excellent teacher and makes learning fun

Tim is really great with making things kids typically hate, which for my son is math, love it! My son actually said he like math now and I was blown away. He helped my son better learn the concepts and different ways to get the math facts down. Because of this my son feels more confident in math and brought home his first A on a quiz! Yay
