I've taught adult learners in many subjects not listed on Wyzant's platform including business administration, business analysis, geopolitical analysis, competitor intelligence, new product concept and development, technical writing, proposal & grant preparation management, project, and program management. In addition, I've been a substitute teacher for high school and middle school in algebra, trigonometry, calculus, physics, earth science, history, English (including ESL/ESOL), business, and world history/civilization. Further, I've edited papers, masters theses, and doctoral dissertations for graduate-level students to improve readability, uniformity, and consistency.

I am very patient yet focused and will work with each student to help find their own best way to learn a given subject. I draw upon my own experiences freely to help motivate students to love learning and demonstrate the relevance of a given topic in their lives and their dreams for a productive and happy future.

I have 40+ years of experience as an engineer, senior executive leader and manager, and high technology business consultant in multiple fields including aerospace, electronics, manufacturing, biotechnology, research & development, business administration & management, intelligence collection, and analysis. U.S. Navy veteran. My current hobbies include amateur radio and electronics troubleshooting.

I speak English, some Mandarin, and Spanish with a smattering of many other languages. I have an extensive world travel experience to Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales), Ireland, Canada, Egypt, Bahrain, and a few other places.

Marketing

I have an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1981), which included significant marketing coursework. In addition, I am an entrepreneur and have operated my own consulting practice since 1990. Further, I have helped many clients with their business plan creation, which includes a comprehensive marketing plan. In addition, I have 37 years of knowledge, skills and experience preparing management and technical proposals for companies that include a commercialization plan for their product offerings.

MS Publisher simplifies document preparation and includes many helpful templates to expedite the production of standard documents such as cards, booklets, etc.
Microsoft Word,

Microsoft Word

I use MS Word every day in my work as an engineering and management consultant. I've prepared both large and small documents using MS Word including major proposals, reports, theses, and dissertations. I am competent with the application and can both demonstrate and instruct clients and students in using MS Word to produce a quality written presentation. Of course, the quality of writing depends on the student, but I can help with that issue also.

Microsoft Access

I use MS Access to prepare scientific and engineering databases for my high-technology clients. One of the most significant databases I created was for ballistic data used in the evaluation and selection of ballistic armor. This database had over 5,000 rows and several hundred columns. It took me six months to create and populate this database for my client.

It uses a critical path method to compute start and finish dates based on the input provided. I advise my clients to first learn project management concepts before using MS Project so they will better understand its benefits and limitations. MS Project will NOT teach project management to a beginner. This skill requires knowledge and experience and I have over 40 years of both.

History

American History,

American History

American History is a continuum of many events and ideas. America is the first country in history that was founded based on the idea that all people are created equal. However, studying American History shows that achieving the goal of true equality in reality has been a continuous and often difficult struggle. There have been many steps forward, backward and sideways as the states stagger in different directions at different times; unsynchronized in their actions unless compelled to alignment by judicial decision. This is the American way of democracy, awkward, yet successful.
Government & Politics,

Government & Politics

I am an active citizen who is engaged in the helping our democracy succeed. I've had direct experience working within the Federal Government as a senior Navy officer with 30 years of service. I've travelled all over the world and observed different forms of government in practice. Often, I've had to keep my political opinions to myself. However, I do have opinions about governance, decision-making and the impact of politics on society. I have seen what works and does not work and the reasons why. I enjoy helping my students analyze and attempt to understand different cultures and their forms of government; some effective and others less so.
World History

World History

Studying history provides us with insights into how civilizations developed and evolved over time. Historians research facts and situations in context but they are writing about their educated opinions and hypotheses. Their interpretations are ultimately subjective to some degree. It is our job to find the "silver thread" of truth within their interpretations and make our own judgments.
