Also, I have English and media certification in the state of Florida. My hobbies include reading, biking, cooking, walking, and gardening.

I work in all subject areas. I am more capable in certain areas for which I took the certification tests that this website offers. I have a lot of experience teaching math including algebra 1 and geometry as I was a long time sub in those subject areas. Also, I have a lot of experience teaching high school and middle school English and reading and basic science. I enjoy working with students and have lots of patience.

My goals are to bring students "up to speed" in their subject areas by helping them gain a basic understanding of their school work. I like to use different methods to help my students, including restating, using illustrations, encouraging creativity, and positive reinforcement. I have lots of enthusiasm for reading, writing and learning. in general, and would like to pass this enthusiasm onto my students.

I am a substitute teacher for Broward County Schools. Previously, I was a Media Specialist for Dade County Schools - Hialeah Miami Lakes Sr. High School and a Librarian 1 For Miami Dade Libraries. Elementary education involves learning the basics, which are the building blocks of all future subjects. A good foundation is necessary to achieve success in school. Reading aptitude in particular is essential in all other learning while math skills such as adding, subtracting and multiplying form the basis for higher mathematics. I have worked in an after-school program helping students with elementary math, language arts, reading and science and social studies. I also work with students in these same subject areas in middle school and sometimes high school. Elementary math involves adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. Reading is my favorite subject...I help students develop comprehension skills and vocabulary. Other strategies involve predicting, decoding using phonics, evaluating what they have read and summarizing, and visualizing and synthesizing material. Many of these same strategies apply to social studies and science in the elementary school. Many students lack focus and I try to keep them on track and how to keep themselves focused in elementary school.

Super helpful tutor!

Sue helped me feel like a lot of these "difficult" math ACT questions are actually simple and easy to understand. She was really helpful and understanding of the fact that I am terrible at math and I feel confident that she will help me achieve my math goals! Thanks Sue!

Sue has worked with one of my staff members for the last week - she has made it very comfortable to help the individual be more comfortable and open with his language challenges. We look forward to continuing working with her.
