For the past 14 years, I've been teaching students of all levels privately and in group classes how to use the graphic design software programs Adobe Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, and programming languages HTML and CSS. More importantly, I've also been assisting and guiding college students and professionals with their graphic and website design projects, assisted students with preparing their art and design portfolios, provide resume and career advice pertaining to the design industry, and helped failing students finish their project on time and pass the class with an A grade. I was born to teach.

Before I got into teaching, I spent over 20 years in the design industry both in Cincinnati, OH and Los Angeles, CA working with clients like Belkin, Disney, Fifth Third Bancorp, Mercedes, Porsche, RadNet, The NBC Agency/NBCUniversal, UCLA and more including multiple printers, ad agencies and design studios on their print and digital projects. I was also the most-sought out Production Artist in Los Angeles, CA and I made it my goal to complete all projects on-time, in budget and exceed client expectations. I also owned my own design studio, Schilling Design, for over 12 years in Los Angeles, CA working with multiple new and small businesses helping them to create an identity for their company with both print and website materials.

Many of my design pieces have been featured in magazines, billboards, bus stop ads, books, newspapers, websites, on television and more.

My education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from Northern Kentucky University (President's and Honor's List recipient) along with extensive skills in all forms for art including drawing, painting, photography, and more.

My artwork has been in featured in solo and group exhibitions, art fairs, calendars, puzzles and more, and I was also commissioned to create several paintings.

Art

Adobe InDesign,

Adobe InDesign

I have over 12 years of experience as a print design designer using both QuarkXpress and Adobe InDesign that has allowed me to work for such companies as NBC/Universal, UCLA and Natrol. My experience with InDesign not only covers print design, but pre-press production. Basically I am hired to build the mechanical files for any print design project and prepare them for the printer.
Drawing,

Drawing

I've been drawing since I was a child and have taken drawing classes in school all my life. In college, I learned how to draw using charcoal (my favorite), graphite, alpha hi grays, chalk pastels, and pencils. I've drawn from photos, still life, and even nudes. One technique my seventh grade art teacher taught me was to draw upside down. This process will teach you to train your right brain to concentrate, and it also makes you look at your drawing from another perspective. Today, I still flip my drawings upside down when I work on them.

Painting,

Painting

I've been painting since I was a child and when I took Painting 101 in college, the class really expanded my painting skills as an artist. I rarely ever use Acrylics. I do NOT paint with watercolors. I only use oils. On the rare occasion I use acrylic paint, its as an underpainting done in either burnt umber or burnt siena before I work on an oil painting. I make my own colors from using standards such as Cadium Yellow Light or Phtalo Blue. I even make my own z-black (the darkest black you can make). I paint from still life, people or photos. I've done commission work for a client by taking an original photo and turning it into a painting. Aside from fine art painting, I've also painted logos by hand on pumpkins, life savers and other requests by clients. And yes, I have been known to flip a painting upside down while working on it.

Desktop Publishing,

Desktop Publishing

I originally started in the design industry as a desktop publisher using Adobe Pagemaker, Illustrator and Photoshop to create client proposals for two Top 25 radio stations in the Cincinnati market without any previous experience in the field. Since my entry into the field over 15 years ago, I have made the transition into a self-employed freelancer that does every from Graphic Design to Print Production to Illustration to Website Design and Development. I specialize in pre-press production where I build the mechanical files that are needed for the printer, which is typically not what a Graphic Designer does.

I have been using Dreamweaver for over 13 years in my web design career to create and build websites for clients. I also teach the Web Design 1 course (Dreamweaver) at Daymar College in Bellevue, Kentucky.

Cooking,

Cooking

My grandma started teaching me how to cook when I was a young girl. I can either follow a recipe exactly, modify a recipe if I don't have all the ingredients available, or throw something together depending on what I have in the house. I can cook most anything, so if you need to know how to make something, just ask. I'm also good at scaling down portions by cooking for one or two people. I even bake. I make all my cookies from scratch.
Sewing

Sewing

My mom taught me how to do latch hook and needlepoint when I was seven. When I was 12, I wanted to learn how to cross-stitch like her so she taught me. I learned how to cross-stitch without using a preprinted pattern on the canvas.

Knowledgeable and courteous to everyone present

Stacy can see exactly what I need to focus on. I hope for the opportunity to develop my proficiency much further under her tutelage. Hopefully, I am not too slow and boring.

Fantastic IN Design help…

Working with Stacy S proved beyond expectation and after the first two hour lesson I’m on my way. Already scheduled more for next week! She is extremely knowledgeable and patient, even with someone like me starting at ground zero. She was able to adjust her training on the fly to my specific work flow too. It was nice to be tutored by a well versed working professional so we could get right to it. Couldn’t be happier.

Very Knowledgeable with InDesign

I recently started a new position and had very little training from my predecessor. I was going to be working with a program I knew of but hadn't worked with directly. Stacy, was fabulous. InDesign is a great program but is very in-depth, Stacy jumped right in from the very beginning. She first emailed me to ask what I was looking to get out of the program, what my knowledge was of the program and what my expectations were. From there we set up several sessions and with her weekly help, I can design new marketing materials for my company. I will probably even set up some additional sessions with her when I'm ready to become further advanced. She was very patient and great to work with. I would recommend Stacy to anyone needing help with this program and others. Thank you!

knowledgeable and articulate tutor

At our introductory lesson, Stacy quickly helped me identify some of the important issues in building a website through wix.com, and the limitations of the on-line tutorials provided by the company. She challenged me to map out the structure of my website, which was very helpful. I look forward to working with her further.

Stacy Rocks!

Stacy is helping me sort out problems with my client's Web site, which was produced by another individual. She has made an incredible difference in the speed with which I am learning a new Web platform.

Extremely knowledgeable Tutor

Stacy helped me design and execute a professional portfolio. She is both knowledgeable and efficient with all the relevant design software programs. These include Photoshop, Behance, Adobe Portfolio, and others. Beyond the mechanics of portfolio design, her professional and academic experience enabled Stacy to advise on what to include and how to order and present each project. Throughout the process, Stacy remained both diligent and patient. I highly recommend Stacy for design and graphics related advice and guidance.
