I'm Andy, a tutor with over 980 hours of experience! I am comfortable tutoring foreign languages, test-preparation (such as SAT/ACT/AP), mathematics, basic computer science and programming, or helping you to craft essays to apply to scholarships, universities, or professional opportunities you may be interested in. Please feel free to message me!

Most of my experience has been on iTalki, where I taught English, French, and Chinese to students ranging from five to fifty-years old. My certifications include a 120-hour TESOL certificate, following a training course. I used student-centered pedagogy in one-on-one lessons to teach absolute beginners pronunciation, grammar, and language basics, while focusing on reading comprehension and fluency for advanced students.

At USC, I’ve taken upper-level mathematics courses, including Probability Theory, Multivariable Calculus, and Linear Algebra, and Computer Science courses in C++.The structured thinking necessary to succeed in mathematics is my strong suit—I’ve participated in Math Olympiads such as the AMC, and NACLO, a national Linguistics Olympiad.

As for test-preparation, I can help with SAT, ACT, and/or AP preparation. I’ve scored perfect 5’s on AP BC Calculus, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP French, AP Chinese, and a 4 on AP Music Theory. I earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT, and a 1500+ score on the SAT (99th percentile).

Regarding application writing and college counseling, I have personal experience applying to over 25 universities in the US, earning over $100k in scholarships, ultimately ending up at the University of Southern California on a hefty scholarship, where I study Mathematics and Computer Science. This process is a challenging one, and I can help empower you in this journey by suggesting improvements in essay craft/ideas, by providing a timeline so you don’t miss important deadlines, or by talking through any concerns you may have!

Please contact me with any questions, and I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals!

French,

French

As a French student who has studied the language for over 8 years, including at the College level with courses such as French Comparative Literature and AP French, I can empathize with the experience of learning this beautiful language as a second language. Currently, I'm working toward a professional certification (DALF C2), which is the highest level of competency in French. Drawing upon all my experience, I aim to help you achieve your goals in this language, whether they be passing a test/class, or discovering a lifelong passion for French!

Linguistics

Linguistics has always been an interest of mine, and one that I've nurtured in university. I've taken coursework from Introductory Linguistics to Phonology and Phonetics, to Computational Linguistics, where we covered chart parsers. Outside of coursework, my research interests are in Psycholinguistics (which is what the lab that I am currently working in, under a USC Professor, deals with) and LLM's, generative AI, and computational linguistics, which I've completed projects in, winning a university competition with our speech recognition model! I'd be happy to help with your Linguistics goals!

As a mathematics student at USC, I've taken advanced courses including Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability Theory, Statistics, and more! My favorite thing to do is explain challenging concepts in easy to understand ways, so whether it be advanced topics, AP Calculus (BC or AB, both of which I aced), or precalculus and geometry, let's get started on your math goals!

Second Session

Andy was able to fit me into his schedule on such a short notice, and that was very awesome of him! He was able to meet me on late hours, and greatly appreciated it!

Zuri, 2 lessons with Andy

Very knowledgeable and flexible

He helped me make sense of a concept that had been irking me for a long time. He was also very understanding when my power cut out in the middle of one of our sessions.

Great tutor

Explained everything well. Taught ACT well to my daughter. Definitely a good teacher. Highly recommended for high school students and beyond. Many tutors are knowledgeable but not everyone can teach.
