Hey everyone! My name is Mitchell! I started my undergraduate career at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah where I received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I decided to pursue biology because I wanted to become a dentist and that degree aligned with my career path and goals. I am now currently enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore, Maryland where I am pursuing a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. I am currently finishing my first year.
I started off my tutoring by volunteering to teach elementary aged kids at a local library. I would help them with their reading by practicing pronunciations, learning new words, and recognizing different punctuations. I did this throughout the summer and it grew into me tutoring college students preparing to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). For the DAT sessions, I did group and one-on-one sessions. I found that one-on-one sessions helped me have a more hands on approach by allowing me to understand specific needs of the students and being able to address those needs directly without them feeling like they were falling behind the other students. Each of these sessions was heavily science based with some reading comprehension and perceptual ability training as well. During these sessions, the students would often bring me their personal statements for the dental school applications. I took this time to help them with their writing skills and helping them paint a picture with their words. I believe that writing is something that is so important and it is a crucial skill to have.
I want to make a difference in the lives of the students that I teach by motivating them, building their confidence, and helping them reach their goals. I also love learning and am open to any suggestions that students or their parents may have! I am easy to reach and will respond as quickly as possible. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson! Happy studying!
