Hello, my name is Erika! I graduated with two master's degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2022 with one degree in history and the other in religious studies. My undergraduate degree from McKendree University is a religion degree, with a minor in philosophy. Though my graduate programs were specialized, I assisted professors for four years in a large variety of subjects, including classes on Islam, religions of Indian origin, and genocide history. This means that despite having specialties, I can teach a variety of subjects, especially those with an emphasis on reading comprehension and writing skills.

As a tutor, I am equipped to help students learn collegiate reading and writing skills--this means my skills are most suited for high school and college students. In the case of high school students, I can help students prepare for writing college essays and reading academic texts. For college level students, I am an experienced Teacher's Assistant (TA) and grader for undergraduate humanities courses. I can help students learn how to efficiently read academic texts and write papers.

I tailor one-on-one lessons for the student involved. For reading skills, I may provide advice on how to take concise yet meaningful notes by providing a reading sample (likely a book chapter) and going through it with the student, taking notes together. With writing skills, it will vary based on where the student is in the writing process. I can help a student learn methods of narrowing their topic, outlining their ideas, writing effectively, and editing their own work.
