When you choose a tutor, real teaching experience matters! Quality tutoring is more than homework help - it's finding the "missing piece" and re-building understanding and skills - that's where nothing can match classroom teaching experience.

I'm a retired physics and sometimes-chemistry teacher with a BS in Physics, an MS in Biology, and advanced certifications as a Science Specialist and in Cognitive Studies. I was named the Connecticut Distinguished Physics Teacher by the American Physical Society and am a Past President of the New England Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers. For ten years I was also a Physics Teaching Resource Agent - providing National Science Foundation-sponsored workshops for physics teachers around the country.

Bottom line: I'm really good at what I do and I'd love to help you or your child!

Physics

I taught Physics at the Honors, College-bound, and General levels for over 25 years, along with teaching AP Physics for a number of years and teaching General Physics at the University of New Haven. I was named Distinguished Physics Teacher for the State of Connecticut on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the American Physical Society. For ten years I was also active as a Physics Teaching Resource Agent - giving workshops and other forms of support to physics teachers in various locations in the United States. Most of all, I love helping kids to learn physics and do so in a calm, supportive way - what's most heartwarming is to help them feel differently and better about the subject and themselves.

Amazing Tutor for AP Physics

My Sophomore daughter is taking AP Physics as her first Physics class. Due to remote learning, her time with her teacher has been reduced to 70 minutes a week compared to 185 minutes in a normal year. All of this adds up to her having a hard time with a class for the first time in her life. My daughter has been working with Sheila for 3 months now and her experience with Physics has totally changed. Sheila completely fills in the gaps that she is not learning in class and gives my daughter the knowledge and confidence to excel in her testing. Sheila will break down the problems and teach my daughter at the base level and then my daughter is able to figure out the problems that she was previously stuck on. We feel privileged to have found Sheila and highly recommend her. In a less than ideal school year, Sheila has ensured that my daughter has a good experience in a hard class.

AP Physics

I had previously depressed the wrong star rating. I was on my cell phone and fat fingered my rating. We meant to give Sheila a well deserved five star rating. We are exceptionally pleased with the Sheila's tutoring.

Extremely patient tutor who knows her physics!

Sheila has and is still helping me understand my physics class. She’s able to go over what the instructor has given and taught, simplify it, and help me understand it the way I need to. She’s extremely patient, kind, and exactly the kind of tutor I needed!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

My daughter’s first session with Sheila for AP physics went well. My daughter said she understood the concepts taught and it helped her on the quiz the following day. We will do more sessions for sure with her when my daughter needs more AP Physics tutoring.

Very thorough and patient teacher!

Ms Sheila explains very thoroughly. She explains physics principles in real world scenarios- making it easier to understand and interesting. She always takes time to explain the concepts.

Fantastic tutoring

My daughter loves meeting Shelia and has learned so much. She is feeling confident and way better about starting AP physics in a few day. We look forward to continuing tutoring throughout the school because she is gaining, so much from Shelia’s knowledge and ability to make it understandable.

Knowledgable and Kind Tutor

My daughter really got a lot out of the tutoring session we had with Sheila and we will reach out to her again. She was thoughtful and used the time well. In addition, she checked in and asked key questions...better yet--I heard my daughter asking questions--so, she was engaged! Thank you Sheila!!

Helped fill in the gaps.

She is very nice and helpful. She helped fill in some gaps from my professor lectures in physics. I enjoy how she explains things that make the subject matter easier to understand.
