Previously, I was working full-time as a Long-term Substitute Theology Teacher at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD. I taught five classes of a total of over 100 students. Before that, I worked as the Director of Religious Education at St. Mary's in Rockville, MD and as a Part-time Tour Guide at the Franciscan Monastery in Northeast Washington, D.C. For the former I was in charge of the CCD program which included over 320 students.

Prior to that, I completed my MA in church history at The Catholic University of America; prior to that I received my BA in political science and history from Syracuse University.

The bulk of my tutoring has been with elementary school and middle school children in the subjects of Reading, Writing, and Math. I am well equipped to help students of these levels improve in those skill areas; if you have a child struggling in one of those areas, or want to help your child get ahead, I'm definitely the tutor for whom you are looking.

I am especially well educated in US history (I received a 5/5 on my AP US History Exam and a 740 on the SAT II in US History) and am well versed in European history, especially Church history. I am also quite skilled in the field of Biblical studies. I look forward to helping share my knowledge, insight, and passion for all of this subject matter with various students.

I have always possessed strong spelling skills since childhood, in part because I have both strong reading skills and an excellent memory. I consider myself to have great ability to edit writing and detect and fix spelling errors, something that should prove very useful for the average student.

History

American History,

American History

I have years of experience in American History. In High School I received a 5/5 on my AP U.S. History Exam and a 740/800 on the SAT II Exam in U.S. History. I received my BA in Political Science and History with concentrations in American and European History. I have an excellent understanding of the formation of the U.S., the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and American participation in both World Wars.
Bible Studies,

Bible Studies

I am well qualified to tutor in the subject of religion due to my extensive history background as well as the number of years during which I received religious education in a private Catholic school. Furthermore, I have extensive catechetical and apologetics experience and served as a Campus Minister for one year and as a Director of Religious Education for one year. I know a great deal of the Bible from memory and am familiar with the exegesis of the biblical text, having led a number of Bible Studies in the past.
European History,

European History

I have years of experience in European History. I received my BA in Political Science and History with concentrations in American and European History. I received my MA in Church History, which covers a great deal of Europe's past. I have an excellent understanding of the late Roman Empire, the Middle Ages, the Crusades, the Reformation, the colonial period, and both World War I and World War II.
Government & Politics,

Government & Politics

I received my BA in Political Science and am well-educated regarding Constitutional Law, the history of American Government, the contemporary political process, and many of the major issues debated in the political sphere today. I also have a strong background in political philosophy.
Political Science,

Political Science

I received a BA in Political Science from Syracuse University. I have extensively covered politics and political philosophy while tutoring students in history classes. I am able to present the material in an engaging, systematic way, assisting students with the memorization and mastery of conceptual understanding necessary to become knowledgeable in the subject.
Religion,

Religion

I am well qualified to tutor in the subject of religion due to my extensive history background as well as the number of years during which I received religious education in a private Catholic school. I have a Master's Degree in Church History from School of Theology and Religious Studies at The Catholic University of America. Furthermore, I have extensive catechetical (teaching) experience and served as a Campus Minister for one year and as a Director of Religious Education for approximately 321 students for one year. I also know a number of ways to improve memorization and study habits which I think would be of service to any student in this or any other subject. My knowledge of Christian history and the various differences among the religion's denominations, differences which I am able to relate to students in an accurate and objective manner, is considerable. I also have a strong background in the history and beliefs of Judaism and Islam, the other main monotheistic religions. While I have less of a background when it comes to other world religions, I am familiar with principles of textual analysis and historiographical assessment. I am ready, willing and able to assist students of other religions and to help those students who are engaged in comparative religious study. I received a 200 out of 200 on the Praxis II Maryland Certification Exam for Middle School Social Studies. Given the extent to which the exam covers world religions, I believe that serves as additional evidence in favor of my competency to teach/tutor this subject.

Chess,

Chess

I have been playing Chess for all of my life. I won my High School Chess Tournament twice and have been playing ever since. Over a year ago I worked as a Chess Instructor for the Olympia Chess Academy and taught young children how to play Chess at two different elementary schools. Additionally I assisted with with instruction for the Chess program at the Parish where I worked. I know the game and am quite able to teach both beginner and intermediate players.
Football

Football

I have a number of years of experience with the game of football. I played for four years in high school at the Varsity level for a team that won back-to-back state championships. I was one of the team captains my senior year and played both offensive and defensive line. Since then I've played over 5 years worth of flag football, primarily on the offensive and defensive line. For the last two years I have also been a flag football offensive and defensive line coach (this past year, the Head Coach) for the Turkeybowl team for the Filipino Organization of Catholic University Students. I have a good understanding of the game of football, specialize in the offensive and defensive line, and prioritize alignment, assignment and technique at each position. I am in good physical shape and can provide a student with a hands-on interactive explanation of how the game of football is to be played.
