Hello, I am John, but I go by Eric! I am currently working as a community college professor teaching general biology courses. I have my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biology and my Doctorate in Environmental Systems. I am an ecologist by training and originally wanted a career in research, but I quickly discovered in graduate school that I love teaching and helping students succeed, so here I am! I have been teaching and tutoring students since graduating in 2018 I have taught at the University, community college, and middle school levels.
Subjects I have taught are general biology, ecology, evolution, genetics, conservation biology, human biology, and middle school/high school math. I have taught students in a variety of formats such as large lecture course, smaller classes and labs, online instruction, and one on one sessions. I am a patient teacher who enjoys watching students succeed and reach their ah ha moments in learning. Nothing gives me more joy than seeing a student finally grasp a topic that they have been struggling with. I try to teach all of my subjects through active learning practices and involve the student in their learning though activities, discussions, and group based learning techniques. I build my lesson plans to accommodate a student's or group of student's individual needs, so that my lesson is built to focus on what a particular student needs to succeed rather than just feeding them unnecessary information.
My goal is to help students be as successful as possible and I always welcome any feedback or suggestions that students or parents have in relation to improving their learning. I am easy to reach and would love to answer any additional questions you have.
