Hi, my name is Heather! I am originally from Idaho, where I studied piano at Idaho State University. I moved with my family to Southern California where I began teaching piano in 1988. I continued to teach when I moved to Southern Utah. While in Southern Utah I was also given the opportunity to be resident musical director for 4 years with the local community theater. I have taught piano for 24 years.

Although classically trained, my exposure to musical theater gave me the chance to accompany live theater giving me the opportunity to express music in a dynamic and creative manner.

My biggest focus when teaching music is just that....teaching music. Like telling a story with a monotone voice, music can also be "one tone" if the student is not taught how to play music and not just notes. My greatest joy is seeing how music can come to life for a student who not just understands, but also feels what the composer has written.

I am very fundamentally grounded and approach my teaching in a manner seeking to create a firm understanding and foundation to my student's reading and interpreting music. This enables me to transition with my students as they progress from beginner to more advanced stages of learning. Many of my students I have maintained a teaching relationship through all stages.
