Art

Adobe Photoshop,

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is an amazing program, capable of great depth and dimension, but most people only need to learn a small portion of it to accomplish their particular goals. If beginners already know the basics, then Ed is able to take them deeper into the refinements of this program. He will use his extensive graphic design and photography experience to teach students how to properly light and photograph their images or subjects, then use a digital camera to transfer the image directly into Photoshop. Ed will patiently guide beginners to learn Photoshop at their own speed and for their own particular needs. Lessons begin with opening and saving files of photo images, cropping, and most importantly, making contrast and color adjustments. Thereafter, save the images in the appropriate resolution and format for your needs, from Internet use to color printing.
Drawing,

Drawing

Ed is a very accomplished artist and has been drawing, painting and exhibiting for many years. Drawing lessons are fundamental, and Ed will work with each student according to their needs and particular level of achievement. The fundamentals include accurately depicting a scene, person, or objects by measuring and developing the ability to render a representational image on a piece of paper. Lessons advance to rendering 'form' or the illusion of 3-D, as well as perspective, and much more. However, for those who have no interest in 'representationalism' (or 'realism'), there is another world of satisfaction in distorting reality, offering a personal viewpoint or interpretation, and Ed will always encourage this path of personal creative exploration also.
Painting,

Painting

Ed studied art for many years, including at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. He has mastered most paint mediums, including Watercolors, Oils and Acrylics. He has taught painting for many years to thousands of students in the USA and in Australasia and his art instruction DVDs are sold to artists throughout the world. His works are in many private and corporate collections. Ed is comfortable working with shy beginners (which is most often the case), helping intermediate painters improve their skills, or guiding experienced painters to explore new concepts and dimensions. Students are free to work in any medium or style they enjoy, and Ed will always encourage them to advance to the next critical stage of their personal development. Lessons include visual aids, theory, demonstrations, and constructive critiques.
Photography

Photography

Ed understands and conveys the essential academic lessons of photography, from aperture and exposure to composing and lighting a photo. For those who embrace traditional film, Ed can assist them to use their camera and film processing to achieve the best results. Although digital and automatic cameras circumvent much of the traditional lessons, there is always a value in understanding these foundations in order to achieve a desired result. For those with Adobe Photoshop experience (optional lessons), the digital images can be refined or manipulated. Ed can work with students to advance to this program also, or simply assist them in arriving at the best original image for commercial prints. As a graphic designer, Ed has directed many commercial photo sessions, worked intimately with labs and large commercial printers, and can provide professional advice for those purposes.

Music

Guitar

Guitar

Ed has been playing guitar, harmonica, singing and performing music all of his life. He respects the particular interests or styles that students embrace, then simplifies the basics of chords and strumming to guide students to their goals, keeping the process as fun as possible. Singing is often an integral part of guitar accompaniment, and Ed can offer valuable lessons that help students locate their key and qualities for personal satisfaction or respectable performances. Ed can also offer key advice for overcoming stage fright, and he can guide students to modest public performances to help them build confidence in themselves by featuring their special talents or joining with others to celebrate the joy of music.
