Hi, I'm Stephanie! I am a 4th-year medical student at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. I graduated college from the University of North Dakota, where I majored in biology and minored in chemistry. I excelled in my undergraduate science courses and began expanding upon my knowledge of science once I began medical school, and I continue to learn more each day. In college, I was a tutor for general chemistry and taught a chemistry lab for three years, where I learned how to individualize lessons to suit different students' learning styles.
I love science because it describes the natural world around us, and even the most abstract ideas in science can be related to a human or environmental phenomenon. One of my strengths is taking these confusing or abstract topics and turning them into a concept that can be learned and understood rather than memorized. I am a visual learner, and I realized that many others are too when I started incorporating pictures and diagrams into my lesson plans for the chemistry lab I taught. In tutoring, I like to draw out ideas, spend time answering questions, and help work through practice questions. I am responsive, patient, and open-minded, and my lesson plans can be adjusted based on anyone's individual needs.
