I have taught in the Commonwealth of Virginia for over twenty-five years serving as a regular classroom teacher, a Reading Recovery teacher, a Title I teacher, a reading specialist, administrative reading specialist, and assistant principal. Most recently, I was a reading specialist for the Northampton County Public Schools and working on my doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy with The George Washington University, Hampton Roads Campus. Prior to this, I was an Adjunct Professor of Education at Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia.
As a college professor, I taught adult learners and had the experience of working with elementary and secondary teachers. I have instructed students on using small group instruction which is part of the Differentiated Instructional Model purported by Carol Ann Tomlinson. The RTI tier is an extension of this model which is now a federal mandate. I have also worked with college students who have learning difficulties, emotional issues, and difficulties meeting deadlines. Additionally, I have worked closely with students who have demonstrated difficulty writing comprehensive essays and have tutored those using graphic organizers, flow charts, and the self-actualization writing process.

As a public school educator, I have created School Improvement Plans (SIPs), desegregated data, aligned curricula, studied AYP gains, and have extensive training in Understanding by Design (UbD) Curriculum Model. Further, I have created mock SOL assessments, studied SOL Blueprints, and developed lessons for diverse learning groups. I have also assisted with grant writing and helped secure $250,000.00 in monies for Chimborazo Elementary School.
As an assistant principal, I have conducted child study, f

Patient and understanding

She helped make my son most improved reader of the year. She has provided him the skills needed to learn how to read.

Excellent Reading Specialist for Learning Disabilities

It was extremely difficult for me to find a tutor who used the Orton-Gillingham method and the very few I found wanted $50/hr. At $25/hr., and believe me she's worth so much more, Elizabeth's not in it for the money. Elizabeth really wants to see our children succeed and with her your child will. You will be amazed at the results. So if you need a tutor who is well versed in multi-sensory teaching for your child, then this is the tutor for you. Elizabeth is extremely knowledgeable on how to teach struggling readers to read and she understands the special needs of our children. With Elizabeth, you not only get a tutor, but you also gain an advocate for your child. She will go above and beyond what any other tutor will do for you. She is willing to fight for what our children need by helping assist us through the IEP process or even attend IEP meetings with us. Another plus to choosing Elizabeth is that she allows you to sit in on the tutoring sessions. This has provided me with the most invaluable insight on how to teach my own child the way she needs to be taught. If any of this sounds like what you've been looking for, then look no further, you've found it.

Absolutely the best tutor around!!

Elizabeth has been a blessing to our family. Our third grade son has always struggled with reading. We tried numerous programs and tutors over the years to no avail. Recently, a neuropsychologist recommended we find a tutor trained in the Orton-Gillingham method. After spending just a couple of weeks with Elizabeth, our son's attitude towards reading has completely changed. He is motivated and is gaining confidence. We have a ways to go to get him where he needs to be, but I am sure we will get there with Elizabeth's help.

Wonderful, no-nonsense tutor!

Very fortunate to have found Elizabeth. In just a few lessons I have seen a vast improvement in my grandson's oral reading and comprehension skills. I'm confident that working with Elizabeth, he will be at or above grade level in the fall!
