Hello, my name is Geoff, and I've taught history at the university level for over fifteen years. I've delivered lectures in large halls, conducted seminars in small rooms, and offered independent studies for single students. In short, we study history in order to understand the present.

Hello, my name is Geoff, and I've taught history at the university level for over fifteen years. I've delivered lectures in large halls, conducted seminars in small rooms, and offered independent studies for single students. While the past is of course interesting for its own sake, my mission statement is that we cannot truly understand the world in which we live unless we understand how it got the way it is. I have a PhD in history from the University of Edinburgh, one of the UK's premier institutions of higher learning. While my own area of research is the eighteenth century, I have taught western civ, modern European history, British history, and American history. Whether your interest is in the agricultural history of medieval Russia, the arguments between Hamilton and Jefferson, the history of European integration, or Brexit, I can help!
Ever since I first began working part-time at a Classical record store (RIP) as an undergraduate, the history of music has been my primary passion. I have attended many hundreds of concerts of operatic, orchestral, chamber, and solo music spanning the entire repertoire. As a chorister I have participated in many performances of the repertoire for chorus and orchestra. In short, whether your interest is in isorhythmic motets of the late fifteenth century or total serialism in the mid twentieth, I can help!
